About posting

July 8th, 2006 | By: Luis | 7 Comments »

If you don’t want your comments deleted, please follow these guidelines:

1. No foul language. Not even with ***%$. The meaning is the same. If you can’t make a point without using foul language, then you shouldn’t be blogging.

2. No moral grand standing. Don’t insult our players our nationality or culture as a whole.

3. If your only point is that we are a bunch of cheaters, then your post will be deleted.

4. No and I mean no racial slurrs or taunting. Go scribble your graffitti somewhere else. There are plenty of blogs that are wide open for you to post your hate.

5. No violent rhetoric or spamming of useless links to hate sites.

If your posts are antagonistic by nature and you become a conflict magnet, you will be filtered into the spam folder by the system. If you change your methods, I will consider removing you from the blocked list, but only on a case-by-case basis.

You are all welcome to post your thoughts as long as you follow these simple rules. If you browse the blog enough, you will see that I have no problem with criticism as long as you’re not just here to grind an ax. Make a legitimate point with civilized language and your posts will not be deleted. We may not agree with you and may offer counter points, but we value your opinions just the same.

Some of you may think my moderation is one sided, but that is not the case. I have deleted just as many garbage and insulting posts from Portuguese fans. So, I welcome you all to continue blogging in the true spirit of friendship. There’s nothing better then a good discussion about football as long as we all respect each other. Thanks and happy blogging.

For the ‘tugas’, lets play our hearts out against Germany. Lets hope it’s a great game.

Força Portugal!

Luis,

from an England fan – thanks for being a credit to Portugal and being a great host here on the Portugal blog. Your team and your country did very well and you should be proud of yourself and your country.

I have to admit that it is hard for me to find any liking for Ronaldo or Figo but I have a great deal of admiration for the rest of the Portugal team and in Ricardo you had one of the top keepers in the tournament – despite those Schweinstager goals.

Anyway – a big thank you for a month of really hard work.

Agree with conditions #1,,4,5 for the posts to be deleted. But, if someone thinks you are cheaters and for the good reason, why do you rush to delete his post, instead of proving the contrary?

Omad – most of the ‘you are cheats’ posters, aren’t here for a real discussion. I find the diving and cheating inquisition a tad boring and cynical. It just leads to a cycle of name calling. If you have something interesting to say, then you need not worry about having your posts deleted.

Luis, you are bang on with all of these ground rules I think. Some topics become vicious, to be sure, and contradictory to what we are trying to create here – discussion, which is often full of passion and emotion, but without slander and insult.

Luis,

I must have missed all the “fun” on here, so I cannot say whether you are being too sensitive or are doing the right thing. My experience on Internet sites, in general, has been that moderators always seem to “play favorites” even if that was not their original intent, but no one here is paying for the right to post, so it is your thread. I personally prefer, when discussing futbol, to do so in a professional and respectful way with knowledgeable people, whether they agree with me or not. It isn’t always easy, because someone can usually hit a nerve sooner or later. Anyway, hang in there..it’s almost over.:)

But my condolences on Portugal. Deco should have stayed out in the semis and yesterday. he seems to have completely forgotten his role in the aligned trio right behind Pauleta (who is over the hill BTW). Deco’s main job is to feed the wings, create space, get the return pass, and find Pauleta if possible. He has failed miserably at that and here we are — watching France and Italy. Yuck!

Just wanted to say here in Canada the broadcasting of the Por-Fra game was appalling as it was quite plain to see who these British guys wanted to lose. I will never watch a game again in English with TSN or any other station. We have reached the big leagues kids we are now the most hated team in the world. I am looking forward to 2008 2010 especially to see England get knocked out again by us. Portual did a great job and here in Canada we are very proud of them. This is just the beginning. It should have been Italy and Portugal but alas the force was not with us. Go Italy Go
