Portugal

Attack!

There were never so many great strikers in a single World Cup. No less then 9 teams will have their all time goalscorer on the field this year. Portugal is one of them. Pauleta overcame Eusébio last year and goes to his second World Cup. There are also names who could reach this record during this World Cup. Both Milosevic from Serbia and Fonseca from Costa Rica are only 1 goal behind it. Could that mean that we will have a lot of goals this year? Scolari doesn’t think so. He believes that fewer goals will be scored this year due to the tough defenses.

All Time Goalscorers

Ali Daei – Iran – 145 caps – 109 goals
Stem Johnson – Trinidad & Tobago – 91 caps – 64 goals
Paul Wanchope – Costa Rica – 67 caps – 43 goals
Pauleta – Portugal – 80 caps – 43 goals
Samir Al-Jaber – Saudi Arabia – 157 caps – 43 goals
Raul – Spain – 92 caps – 42 goals
Akwa – Angola (there is no official number on Angola’s Federation website)
Schevchenko – Ukraine – 63 caps – 28 gols

Hi LP.

Chek it out, Lampard (now with the ENG team, preparing in Algarve, south of Portugal) puts Portugal as one of the favourites! Not bad, ha…? :-)

Funny enough, Deco will retain #20 and C Ronaldo #17. :-)

Simao will have the “other winger” classic nr – 11, and from 1-9 it all match, except Miguel which won’t be #2 (P Ferreira) but #13. I guess it matches his face when he plays… ;-) Anyway, P Ferreira has always used #2…

Figo says group D is very “tricky” and that preparation is essential. Other teams are preparing for already quite some time and that makes a big, big difference…

One thing I never understood… #8 stands for what…?

We’ve had a “half-striker” (meia ponta, the guy who plays between #10 and the striker) with #8 – Joao V Pinto – OR a defensive, or centre, midfielder – Petit.

For what I know 1-5 is clear, #6 is defensive midfield, #7 and #11 are the wingers, #10 everybody knows, #9 is the striker, but #8 I never knew…

This, of course, in a team with wingers and with advanced and back midfielders…

Anybody knows…?
