Chicken Soup for the Goal
Helio Loureiro, the Portuguese National Team’s Chef, told 24 Horas that he will feed his squad chicken soup to ward off any homesickness that may occur in Germany. According to him, there is nothing like it “to give strength and revive family memories.”
“We are going to give them a good chicken soup. Nutritionally it is the wrong option but it is a dish that warms and comforts. We are going to give them what they need physically but also what they need spiritually,” he added.
Unlike most other teams, he doesn’t plan on ruling out wine, either. “Only on game days will they not drink it. Wine is seen as a food. Consumed moderately it is a rich and good food which should be used not to kill thirst but to kill desire,” he said.
I can’t give an expert opinion on this, as I’m not a nutritionist–but whatever they ate during the last Euro, please give them seconds on that!
Maybe our early exit in World Cup 2002 was due to too much Caldo Verde (Kale Soup) and a few too many Sagres Beers??

Some teams just are way too uptight when it comes to the World Cup. I say give the guys wine and let them stay with their wives.

Me too. Also, wine - especially ours
- is a “must” in any portuguese diet, worthy of the name.
