Fabulous Figo
Whether you regard him the overrated Judas Figo or the Fabulous Figo, he has become the symbol of Portugal – and vice versa. Earning some of the most prestigious titles a footballer could strive for, including the most coveted Ballon D’Or.
His last days as a Los Galacticos were disappointing, since he was benched. This brought up doubts on Figo’s ability to perform prominently for Portugal’s national team. Then, a brilliant move to Inter MIlan has given Figo “A great Happiness”, and it shows. Figo’s performance is solid and consistent, proving that making goals is not so much a problem for him.
The praises from the likes of Inter president Facchetti who has deemed Figo, “A player who has written the most important pages of European and world football in recent years,” is most true, however, remarks like this will make Figo work even harder, not necessarily inflate his ego. This is one of the reasons why I adore him. He is most self-critical, and possesses fantastic sportsmanship, and is no wonder the likes of Cristiano Roanldo looked to him as an idol from his childhood, now looks to him as a mentor.
I predict Figo will play the World Cup with his usual greatness, and will score to not only prove to those who doubt him, but to prove to himself he in fact deserves to be there.

I was a large Figo Fan for a very long time. I think that Figo still has some good games left in him but most would agree that they are far and few between now. His performance is sub-par more often than it is brilliant.
As a Portuguese Fan of our national team, I have followed Figo’s career and do not appreciate his moody behavior. His talented career and his many awards have influenced his thinking and it seems that he wishes to be treated with a level of respect that is sometimes undeserved. A perfect example would be Euro 2004 match against England when he stormed off the field after being substituted for Postiga. This type of behavior is not consistent with the leader that other teammates look upon for support.
I truly hope that Figo will use World Cup to demonstrate his incredible potential as a player and to finish his career as one of the top Portuguese athletes ever. However, if Figo’s performance is poor than Scolari should not hesitate to pull him.

I must disagree.
Figo, on top of outstanding exceptional qualities as a footballer (probably the best player I have ever seen play live, together with Henry and Scholes) has got a very strong winning mentality. Mentality is in my oppinion as important as technical/phisical qualities to suceed at the top level, and his strong desire to win as played a key part in getting him to the top.
That’s why he reacts when he’s subbed in the Euro quarter finals as Portugal was then loosing to England. He’s a winner, and he’ll go down to his last drop of sweat to turn it around for his team.
Certainly did it for all his clubs he played for. Barcelona dropped and didn’t win a trophy 2 years after he left… look at Real now…!
