manuel – i’ll insult all, if you give me a chance – you ask Luis for qualifications in his criticism of the ‘math’ yet provide none of your own, other than the ever so cryptic – ‘the formula is in negotiation’…hmmm, yeah, i’m sure it is and you’d better hide it well before the bulgarian secret police get to it first…

for anyone reading this blog or any other to not admit to complicity between the big fish and fifa is to close ones eyes to world history since the dawn of time…

and to Sandy – ‘England are a much better team’ – wow – so 10-15 years of pinning your hopes on one ‘young star’ after another and watching them flame out or wimper into history is the making of a great team? believing your own hype now qualifies you to be what you imagine yourself to be? have you been spending a lot of time in the US white house? appears to be the case…

@sandy – sorry, that was directed at friend and dorkus, not youo

@manuel – aka baby Perelman et. al. – as the moderator Luis’ only role is to keep things clean…they have just as much right to comment and criticize opinions they disagree with… to date, i don’t recall anything ever being censored or removed unless it was racists nonsense…

stop trolling and go get your Field’s medal… I’m still LMAO on that one… the formula, hah hah…the secret million dollar forumla, black hats, trench coats, foggy lisboa streets…

“FIFA – maybe the point system is more accurate now, but it still doesn’t expain FIFA favoritism right after the World Cup.”

You can’t even follow Fifa’s system which is all layed out for you on their website. Just try and keep your colouring inside the lines and leave the calculations and thinking to others.

I’m sure you are very good at putting on your Portugal Jersey, beeping your horn and yelling Forca Portugal.

@manuel – wow, what a great, insightful and i must say, amusing retort – why don’t you go get your shine box pal…

maybe i don’t choose to waste my time following a ‘revised’ point system that is still flawed. it should be obvious for anyone with half a brain (clearly you are only in possesion of one quarter , at best) that when attempting to truly solve a problem, you don’t effectively do so by just watering down the current process, which is self-admitedly flawed – unless of course, you are only choosing to appease and not truly choosing to fix and move forward…

i’m sure you’ve accounted for that type of logic in your brilliant mathematical studies.

i’m actually a fan of football – s*** for brains and i don’t particularly find the system to be fair for most countries, other than england, the netherlands & brasil.

and exactly which journal will we see your lovely formula in? you’ve still failed to present your qualifications – or do you think we will not be overwhelmed by ‘drinks milk through a straw in his nose…’

@ caldas

Thanks… but to be honest coming up with a better response than yours is not something to brag about.

A monkey can have a better retort than ….what is it you wrote again….

“hah hah hah – tee hee – bah hah hah” You are a poster child for a failed educational system.

I can tell you don’t waste your time with silly things like math formula’s and facts. They get in the way of what you think.

You are one of the last of a dying breed….you say Portugal should be ranked (for the sake of arguement) 5th. when asked why you respond “cause”.

Don’t change….your gold. Forca caldas17

@manual – you is real smart, real smart

and you my foil are unfortunately one of many who permeate government and all of the world – big talkers with nothing to show who believe that if they talk up a lie enough, that all will believe and that by the time they realize they have been lied to, it’s too late….

the reasons that i feel pt should be ranked higher have been documented throughout this blog ad nauseum and there are many others here and in other sports ‘channels’ focused on football who would argue the same points.

perhaps if you can tear yourself from simple sentence structures and graduate to the world of 6th grade reading level, a few newspapers or magazines might help to enlighten you.

so – the world still waits on your ‘formula’ – your brilliant formula that ranks cameroon ahead of numerous others for their impressive ability to qualify for the world cup once in their history and oh – well, they made the olympics too, right? very very impressive. and holland – a team that i despise more than any other and still would easily rank in the top 10 at least – as would any other sensible fan – nowhere to be found…

i take back the ‘foil’ comment – you are not worthy of that veneration – you are just a hack – plain and simple – a mediocre, lame ass who attempts to ridicule others and rate an educational system he knows nothing about while using his impressive command of the english lexicon to throw out words like ‘arguement’ – perhaps, you should spend more time on dictionary.com and less time on imclearlyadumbasswhomakesupformulasandtalksshitcuzwhateverfootieteamisupportsuxass.com

Dont I feel foolish now that you have decimated my previous post by pointing out that I mispelled argument.

Well done, that calls for some horn beeping followed by loud chants of Forca caldas17.

Surprisingly you did point out an error in my list. So allow me to correct it.
Apply following changes to Rankings

7. Netherlands
10. Switzerland
16. Nigeria

By the way your reference to my possible graduation to grade 6 was a great way to knock my intelligence.

still waiting on the magic formula… i never made any claims other than to be a fan of football. pt people don’t go downtown with their horns, btw – you confuse us with brasilians.

i wish the portuguese had a little more of that celebratatory spontaneity in them…

oh…and what about that formula…

i suppose to a brilliant mathemetician and keeper of wonderous formulas, those subtleties of human behavior are lost on you and we ‘latins’ are all the same…

@Manuel: your list is also a good anti-depressive… :-)

To all,

POR drew with Finland and lost to Danmark (friendly), these last days. Before that, and before the WC, the last defeat happened against Greece, in Lisbon, July 4th, 2004…

06/WC:
POR beat ENG + NED, went further than Spain, finished behind only to GER, FRA and ITA

04/EC:
went 2nd, behind only to Greece (who disappeared without a trace), beating ENG, NED and Spain (also Russia).

02/WC:
went home early, France the same and didn’t even score a goal, Spain and Italy went further (but not last 4) and were robbed out of the WC, NED didn’t qualify and ENG went last 8.

00/EC:
went last 4 together with NED, lost to FRA, beat ENG, beat GER, beat also Romania and Turkey, who went last 4 in WC, 2 years later, losing to Brazil.

08/WC:
didn’t qualify, courtesy of a gentleman by the name of Marc Batta – everybody still remembers THAT game against Germany, POR WAS cruising, winning 1-0, after a superb goal from P Barbosa, in a quite boring match…

Here’s something on 1996:

http://footballmundial.tripod.com/uefa/uefa_1996.htm

And it should be enough…

So what now…? Friendlies are worth more than oficial games? WC 02 is worth more than EC04, EC 00 and WC 06 all together…?

Now… What kind of formula can state, in the presence of these results, that Portugal is behind the mentioned teams in the ranking…?

But because everybody knows the rankings are bullshit, nobody really cares… It’s just fun to see, sometimes, things like the US in nr 5… ;-) Or the way Italy and Spain went out in 02… Actually, the way Spain went out in 06 was also kinda funny… ;-) The way Henry dived throughout all WC06 and how only C Ronaldo was the master diver… :-) Also how the french players simply ignored Domenech and made Zidane their real coach… How he, indeed with a lot of merit, took them to the Final, how Blatter was behind him all the way, and also how he alone threw it all to the ground with that head blow… I can imagine Blatter’s rage… :-)

@caldas17

Thanks but I wouldn’t refer to myself a “brilliant mathemetician” but I have been called very gifted.

Now as for how I arrived at my rankings. It does take some study of the last 8 years of international football, which I am not willing to share at this point in time.

Would it make a difference to you though? You don’t accept Fifa’s rankings which you describe as flawed, but you dont point out the flaw? If you cant follow Fifa’s system you have no hope in following mine. You don’t want to hear or understand anything that deviates from your idea of where Portugal should be ranked. From what I can tell the ranking you give Portugal seems to be a number you pulled out of your butt.

That being said I could be wrong and you could actually have a factual basis of why you think Portugal should be ranked higher. If so you sharing it would be greatly appreciated. Just base it on why Fifa miscalculated.

Football fans learn to look at their teams without the rose coloured glasses.

As far as your last sentence “those subtleties of human behavior are lost on you and we ‘latins’ are all the same…” what are you babbling about?

beep beep.

Rankings mean nothing, only results count, and in the last 4 years, Portugal has managed better results then most of the teams on Manuel’s list. That obviously gets under the skin of some fans. That is the only point I wish to make.

What ranking did I attribute to Portugal? I’ve made no mention of any specific ranking, so I’m not sure what you are referring to in your previous post.

My disagreement with the FIFA rankings and the process are just that – my disagreements and I’m not alone in my opinion. You comment that Luis is not accepting of dissenting opinions, yet you turn around and employ flawed logic. I can only assume you work for the current administration.

I disagree, therefore I clearly do not understand and my opinion is not valid. Further to your point, i dissent, therefore i must present a new method or otherwise my opinions are not valid. I dissent and thus, could never understand the basis for new method of assessment because it is based on the old method.

Seems like a rather arrogant, dismissive and unproductive method for achieving progress.

I have said only this and will continue to say – you have proposed some impressive new method – one based on ‘rational mathematical calculations’ but calculations that are so rational and mathematical that htey left off a top 10 team.

This makes it painfully obvious that you are either a. a horrible mathematician and not at all ‘gifted’ as you claim to have been called or b. a liar and pathetic troll.

Which is it? Do tell or go away.

and to @Pedro – thank you for providing some of the obvious details for our Fields medal contender.

caldas17 | September 19th, 2006 at 10:54 am “Portugal was behind England and Holland – two teams that they defeated for the SECOND time in a major tournament – Euro 04 and WC 06… so, help me understand that math, please…”

I tried to help you by advising you that the formula is posted on the Fifa website. However that it would required you to do some reading.

caldas17 | September 25th, 2006 at 2:19 pm

“for anyone reading this blog or any other to not admit to complicity between the big fish and fifa is to close ones eyes to world history since the dawn of time…”

caldas17 | September 26th, 2006 at 10:27 “i dissent, therefore i must present a new method or otherwise my opinions are not valid.”

Ofcourse you must. We are talking about calculations to try and determine ranking of teams, not which colour is cooler red or blue. Fifa posted these formula’s out in the open so what problem do you have with them?

If i have accomplished anything I at least have you using your big boy words, you have come a long way since this post…

caldas17 | September 25th, 2006 at 2:33 pm …hah hah hah – tee hee – bah hah hah

Beep Beep

By the way I freely admitted to my error in posting the wrong teams in positions 7, 10 and 16 I was just surprised you caught it.

So once again….Beep Beep

You’re a funny man – actually, you’re an ass. You stated that I cried about a specific ranking – I did not.

You claim that because the formulas are posted they are some how valid or fair? What the f are you smokin’ dude? Get off of it. Formulas can be manipulated to be beneficial to whatever end.

Thanks for being impressed by my big boy words – unfortunately, i’m still not impressed by your big boy math – because there isn’t any.

I’m done with this conversation – if you were so concerned with the rankings then address Pedro’s last post – it is a valid catalogue of notable events.

Otherwise, go back to England or wherever and stop trolling…

Great posts…thank you. I love that you tried to post with my name by ever so cleverly adding an additional “l” to my name.

The second thing I wanted to accomplish was to cause you to have a nervous breakdown and inflict psychological damage.

Mission accomplished.

Now for your own health and well being let it go and just start posting under a different name. You pretty much killed any credibility you have with caldas17, well I helped but you did most of the work.

You are so clever and intelligent, how did I ever expect to trick everyone.

And again you are correct, I better call my psychiatrist – quickly, before my breakdown gets any worse.

beep beep

So? Where is the formula – and thanks for admitting that all you have to say on this board is nothing about your precious little non-existent ranking system – it’s just nonsense – at least I’m having some fun of it. I hope the others are as amused and not too annoyed that we’ve wasted their time.

Finished – the end. Ciao.
