Figo to FC Moscow?

November 3rd, 2006 | By: Luis | 13 Comments »

FigoThe rumor mill is at it again. CNNsi reports that there are rumblings suggesting that Luis Figo may end his career at FC Moscow. If he decides to make this move at the end of his Inter Milan contract, I certainly hope it turns out better then the Maniche and Costinha Russian holiday. With the Russian league on the way up and all the rubles kicking around in the football world these days, I guess you can’t blame him for entertaining the idea.

No, no, no! This would just be totally wrong! Call me a Eurosnob, but I really think he needs to come to MLS.

No I don’t agree with the idea either, it means I will have less of a chance of ever seeing him play! I’d like to see him finish at Benfica or Porto; a nice Portuguese team.

I don’t know if we should really believe this…
Inter has a very cooperative and comfortable team where Figo feels fine. Milan seems to be the perfect place to end one’s career.
Of course they’re under pressure after the bad CL start, but Figo’s interviews are full of happiness and jokes, he’s smiling very often and seems relaxed and content.

I wouldn’t know why he should think about continuing in Russia…
He’s always very busy at training and runs a lot, but it’s apparent that he was faster in former days, and now that the NT doesn’t “trouble” him any longer, he concentrates on fun on the pitch and victories are not that important to him any more.

Today he celebrates his 34th birthday, and we wish him all the best and success with Inter – and not with FC Moscow, hopefully! ;-)

“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart…”
(Isaiah 40:11)

God bless you, Luís!
At your birthday and always
may His love
fill your heart
and bring joy and peace
to your life.

Hardly washed up CR19 !

He will be playing less and less, but enjoying life and the game and still providing a club with so many options is valuable to all parties.

I think Moscow would be delighted but I don’t think Moscow would fly well with his wife, if it did, yeah I think Figo might give it a go.

“He will be playing less and less but enjoying the game”. Thanks for proving my point.

What point…?

He’s not washed out, he’s 33 (or 34)…

He WAS European player of the year, World player of the year, the leader of the 4th placed team in WC06, almost the leader of his current team where he still has an extremelly important role, etc, etc, etc…

You can argue that Inter is a team with little “victory spirit” and that tradition says it’s a team where most players go to end their carreers… A lot of people will back you up, true or not…

Just remember this year there aren’t either (Berlusconi’s) AC Milan, nor (Agnelli’s/FIAT’s) Juventus, in the way… Which should give all the other teams the honest chance they usually never get…

Anyway, going back to the point, Figo is old but certainly not washed out…

But you can say what you want, CR19… ;-)

Old players are not automatically washed out…
Beckham has been washed out for quite a long time, and so has been Ronaldo (the Brazilian, of course).

According to this theory, Pauleta’s retreat was, of course, self-explanatory, and Figo’s too because he has done so much for Portugal and European football. At least three times in a month he plays really badly in important matches, although his performance in training is constantly good. But he needs to rest by being only substituted more and more often.

Okay, I have problems admitting my fav players are washed up. Like Rui Costa for instance.

Rui Costa and Figo may be at the tail end of their careers, but that doesn’t mean they have nothing to offer. Washed up certainly doesn’t apply to Figo. He’s still contributes considerably to Inter’s success.

Question is off topic, but we all know that Jorge Andrade won’t be called up for the next international, but does he get called up at all and is he still a part of Scolari’s plans if he plays well at Depor?

Nelson – early reports suggest Jorge will be called by Scolari. We should know tomorrow.
