Going after Brazil
One month ago I said that Portugal was going to take the Brazilian’s place on the FIFA’s rank soon. While some of you were laughing at me, FIFA released its new rank: Portugal have improved one position while Brazil remains still.
Portugal now appears as the 7th best team on the World. Only God(and Sepp, who believes to be God) knows why.

Based on ranking, Mexico is even closer “to take the Brazilian’s place”. They moved up 2 to 4th place just three below Brazil!!!

But Mexico is overrated. Just like USA. So, that’s 2 positions that we are getting soon.

From what I heard, the people of Portugal seemed to be the most confident. You are already talking about a possible final with Brasil. You need to worry about the second round, which I don’t think you will get past. You’ll face The Netherlands or Argentina, depending on what happens with the Mexico game, which will probably be a tie.

That’s very funny! Brazil didn’t climb up the ladder!!! Very nice observation, man. Very funny.

O.k well…..let’s see. Portugal BEAT England, Spain, Notherlands and many other great teams. Yes. Mexico is a great team but so are all the teams. Portugal will make it!!
Just like World Cup and Euro you never know what will happen. 2002 World Cup Portugal was not the only GREAT team to chok! France and Argentia did too.
FORCA PORTUGAL!!!!!!
Of course we are confident….every country should be of their team that is what National Pride is.

Hi Mark! The words now are “believe” and “faith”.
A final (or any match) against Brazil would always have a special meaning for a portuguese. Furthermore, beating Brazil should be easier for Portugal than beating Italy or Greece. Doesn’t mean it’s easy…
Portugal, although frequently failing to qualify to the WC’s, has never been affraid, or played poorly, against stronger teams (check out the qualifies for 98 and 94 – one hell of a game against Germany in 97). Nobody remembers, but already in 2000 we had 4 straight wins against ENGland, ROMania, GERmany and TURky. We have/had a chronical problem wih goal scoring and overdefensive teams, plus coherence. All these things add up to obvious lack of experience at high level competitions. While having superb players. These things have generated a great deal of frustration in the past 10 years. We’ve had more skilled players than now, but now we have a very strong team.
We are all aware of the challenges we face, case we get out of group stage. Actually, groups A-D have a more difficult task than groups E-H. IMHO… If we pass groups, we can meet any from group C. Enough for anybody to shit the pants… Personally, I fear ARG and SM the most.
But if we are to shit the pants, than we have no business going to any competition. Winning or losing can always happen to any team. The obligation is to to the best possible. Only one wins out of 32. I feel reaching the last 8 is not asking too much and we deserve it. I feel we have the stuff to win, but so do other teams, better than ours. I know we might not even reach the last 16.
But if Portugal plays good and avoids doing stupid things, I’m happy, no matter the outcome. Who doesn’t wish to win?
FORCA PORTUGAL!!!

I saw the SIC channel’s TV spot for the “Mundial”, and it was interesting to hear at the end a guy saying: “To win you don’t have to be great, you just have play the best you can”, or something like that.
I think you were brain-washed by that Pedro P! I bet Scolari does not think like that.
It seems that SIC channel is avoiding any favoritism, even being a little pessimist. As saying “we won’t mind losing as long as we play well”. Isn’t that a little lame?
The worst part of it is that “Na na na na naaa naaa, na na na na naaa” part. You can’t chant that on the streets! It would sound very silly!
