If It’s Any Consolation…

Defenders Pepe and Bosingwa (both pictured on the left of the wall) were named to the 2008 Euro Team of the Tournament. Congratulations to them and a super cynical “Big Fucking Whoop” from me, your fearless blogger. If you had asked me before the tournament what position I thought we’d be having top performers from, I highly doubt I would have said defenders.

When will it be Portugal’s time to win? They have so much talent and quality. They need to stop underachieving.

julien has now revealed to everyone the precise thought goes through a Portuguese person’s head after Portugal are knocked out of a given tournament. (Aside from the various forms of “filho da puta” and the lovely verb “foder”)

perhaps when UEFA let them win.I don’t know if they had win this Euro
2008,but one think its for sure and its taped in a lot of world channels, they were stop against germany, but not thanks to germany team football. there are something strange in this euro, and i’m still surprised how Spain did it. everyone was expecting some help for the germans.but i’m glad this wild circus ended like this.to the Portuguese team, only these words for you. be proud of what you made this year, and remember its better lose with dignity than win miserable like some we know. congratulations.

Ok,let me explain something, tell me one, i repeat, ONE person who wasn’t mad to be knocked out of the tournament???and now, tell me another thing, wouldn’t you be mad to see USA knocked out of some tournament unfairly?EVERYONE says stupid things and call dirty names when their angry, even a fucking priest do it.so,yes i was one of those who said those kinds of words, casuse our last game(against germany) was a total joke.but most of those names were to the referee,he was the one who made all the shit. but i apreciate the words from patrick,we must be proud of what we played in this euro, we were one of the best teams, and we shurly deserved to be in the final with our hermanos!

Julien: Portugal will win a tournament when the players will stop being a bunch of individualistic ego’s and start playing as a team. Basically never…

This Euro left a bad taste in my mouth. I was and still am very upset about the Germany game. I still can’t believe all the people who state how great Germany played against Portugal. Germany was okay but Portugal still controlled the game and had a ref who saw things only Germany’s way. I don’t even want to talk about the Ballack goal because I still can’t believe that the ref didn’t call a foul. I only wish that Spain’s goal would have been exactly like Ballack’s. But anyways, I am very proud of Portugal generally but this Euro 2008 disappointed me. It started with substituting so many players against Switzerland. For the level of football that Portugal plays, and can play, there is no excuse for losing to Switzerland. None. This loss interrupted the rhythm of the team. It was needless. The Euro is a short tournament. Players don’t need that much rest. You sit players that have yellow cards. You don’t sit the entire team. Scolari was a great coach but he messed up with the Switzerland game and by allowing the Chelsea announcement to be made. It was inappropriate. I hope to see us at WC 2010 but we have a tough qualifying group. This was not a Euro to remember.

Watching Casillas after watching Ricardo made me realize how desperate the GK situation is. A solid and dependable striker and a competent keeper seem like the biggest absences from the squad in this tournament. I think the rest is well covered…except maybe left back…

I’m sick of all the blame on the referee…the referee didn’t make Moutinho knee it, he didn’t make Ronaldo skirt it wide, he didn’t make Postiga head it over, etc.
Sure, Ballack’s goal was questionable, but it was a 50-50 shot…Portugal could have and should have won, and it was our own fault, not the referees.

Basically, you don’t understand nothing about football. We had one of the greatest team games of this euro.even ronaldo who is the most individualist played as team.so watch the games before say something.

There are a lot of errors to point in this euro,it’s no useful to point them cause will change nothing, but at least we can show and try to people see how ridiculous this euro was.germany won to portugal badly, wasn’t just the goal of ballack, was also a penalty in favour of portugal that the referee didn’t saw(or pretend)the germans game is so much amazing as dirty, they are to agressive,no wonder ballack is on the top of the players with more fouls, with other german players s few positions below.we can’t blame the referee, but sometimes, by watching the games, we don’t have any choice, cause when a team plays clean, good and had all the chances to win,and at the end, lose because of some stupid errors of the referee, what do you want us to say.in 2010,we’ll see some countrys again playing, and my will be there too.

A team doesn’t fight over who’s going to take a freekick.

A couple of points portugal as a team and a nation need to realize. The best team does not always win, especially in soccer. What matters is having a team that is good enough to win year in, year out. Brazil the greatest nation in soccer is the best example of this, every tournament they play they have a team good enough to win and sometimes they win and most times they don’t. But when the chips fall in their favor, they have a good enough team to take advantage of their good fortune. The number one killer in professional sports is not being ready when your chance comes. Portugal has been ready for the last several tournaments, they just need to continue this untill the chips fall in their favor. I believe in being due, and I think that your teams today will decide your results of tomorrow. If portugal continues to have teams of the same caliber over the next 10 years they will no doubt win a major trophy, because they would be due…and it will most likely come with a less than likely team but that’s how it goes. Aside from this a couple team related things I would suggest.
1)No to Carlos Quieroz as the next coach (please). He is second to none in developing youth but he is not a man who takes the finished product all the way. He is way to defensive a coach, this ensures going far but not all the way.
2)Portugal have always had good strikers and goalkeepers. Ricardo made big mistakes but thats only because he was not the best keeper we had to offer. You pay the price for the bad selections you make. And our striker are under-achievers because of the soccer we play. Forget the 4-5-1 and play 4-4-2, when you give them more time on the ball they will score more goals.

To marina etc.:
From Germany:
You are talking nonsense.
As a German I must and like to say the Dutch were – apart from that accident (decisive, though) against Russia – the most impressive and pleasing side of all in two of their matches: France, and especially Italy, outclassed !
Portugal’s soccer seems to reflect Portugal’s history:
Always colourful, but when it comes to the heart of the matter, they falter.

I’m glad we have funny people writing here,at least it makes us laugh!!!
thanks german writers of this blog!
