Liedson ponders naturalization
We know we need a real top notch striker. With Pauleta retired and no clear solution for the future at hand, the press has started rumbling with news that some consider Sporting’s Liedson the best man for the job. It’s clear he’s the best striker in the SuperLiga. His abilities in the box could be that final piece to the puzzle that helps Portugal secure a major title, but is it worth all the fuss that the ensuing battle over naturalizing another Brazilian will bring? The current home grown options leave something to be desired. N. Gomes and H. Postiga will most likely fill in for the short term, but Scolari will need to find a new solution sooner or later. The U21 team has some interesting talents like H. Almeida and R. Vaz Te, but they are very young and need time to fully develop. Whatever Scolari decides, it’s clear this will be his biggest priority when he gets back to work.
One thing is clear, however. The sporting star forward is open to the idea. Asked to comment on the matter, Liedson stated that he is very comfortable in Portugal and that he would give it serious thought if all conditions where in place. “I’m happy in Portugal and if I and everyone involved felt good about such a decision then I would have no problem with the idea. If there were an invitation, I would give it careful consideration,” he stated.
Força Portugal!

I dont like Liedson’s style. Im not sure he would be the best guy to play as a lone forward but if anyone else disagrees then I might be biased because of his style.
BTW, doesnt he love diving?

It would kinda suck if Portugal became the Brazillian ‘B team’. If he doesn’t think of himself as portugese he shouldn’t play for the team.

this might be a gud idea, im kinda 70-30 on it,i mean ppl prob had reservation abt deco doing the same thing but luk how thts turned out, ok he wernt tht great in the world cup but tht was cos of an injury, but i think it cud b gud if liedson played 4 portugal, but still i think gomes shud b given 1st choice.

don´t do it…
not more brasilian players in the portuguese team! deco is more than enough… I know they play well and they can help the team, but… they are not portuguese and none sheet of paper will change that! lets left the Portuguese selection for the true Portuguese players!

I agree that Gomes should get first. But we should foucs on one or 2 other strikers for the long tear. We lack there and i think we could have gone further without Pauleta. After the 3rd game he should have been on the side.

U guys need to stop worrying about the fact that he is brazilian. so what? wut u should pay attention to is his ability to score goals, something that the Portuguese national team has trouble doing. I am a die hard Sporting C.P. fan and the young midfielder Joao Moutinho is going to be a great addition to the portuguese team, but they lack depth in the forward position. and lets face it, helder postiga had an awful world cup campaign. Without a doubt Liedsons scoring ability is what is needed and he is the PERFECT option for Portugal!
VIVA PORTUGAL!!!
