Pauleta fights back
Pauleta is a little ticked off with the critics. More precisely, with some comments recently made by Brazil coach Carlos Parreira and articles popping up in the British media. He was obviously disturbed by recent efforts to destabilize the team now that they are firing on all cylinders and look to be a possible contender.
“We’re not afraid of anyone. We respect everyone and we like to be respected in return. We won’t allow anyone to disrespect us with false accusations about our players or country. That’s sacred,” he declared in a recent interview. “We’re going to show the world that we’re ready for whatever comes our way. If we lose it won’t be for lack of effort or spirit.”
On the topic of England, the Portuguese forward insisted that England was a team to be taken seriously with very talented players, but that Portugal was a better team then in 2004. “The game will be won on the little details,” he concluded.
The sequence of events isn’t clear to me yet, but it seems an English media outlet recently published a bogus interview with Pauleta. If anyone can find it, please share it.
Força Portugal!

don’t know if link will work, but football365.com published a information that THE SUN got an interview with Pauleta and he said ENG goalie was weak spot.
For anyone who reads the site a bit knows THE SUN is always speculating about trades and stories and is basically a Football tabloid.

Because Pauleta is a very respectful player, I doubt he made any of those comments. The Portuguese are big beleivers in Karma … especially, in Pauleta’s native island of Sao Miguel.
Forca Portugal !

Yah i thought it was kind of awkward why Pauleta would say such a thing. Robinson is awesome goalie. I~d be happy to trade him for Ricardo.. Not to take away anything from Ricardo, he has been solid aside the shaky save he made taht almost found it~s way to the back of the right corner. )holland game=
Pauleta sees faults in Robinson’s game
28/06/2006: Portugal striker Pauleta has targeted Paul Robinson as the man to exploit during the quarter-final clash with England on Saturday.
The Tottenham keeper has been in shaky form since the start of the tournament, flapping at crosses and hesitant to leave the sanctuary of his six-yard box.
And according to a British newspaper report, Portugal are preparing to target Robinson in Saturday’s quarter-final.
“I see faults in Robinson that we can exploit in Gelsenkirchen this Saturday. The England keeper is not one of their better players,” Pauleta said.
“It is good to have team-mates at Portugal who play in the Premier League because they can tell us important details about the opposition.
“But I already know all about England’s defence – what the strengths are and what their weaknesses are. I do not see anything inferior about Portugal compared to England.”

Pauleta needs to focus on Saturday’s game right now not worry about this. Media is trying real hard to get these guys off focus, let’s hope they will not succeed.
He’s one of my favorites, however, he looked a little lethargic during the last game.

in Thursdays’s press conference the English media were only given 3 questions in total.

We are all with you Pauleta!
“Não temos medo de ninguém. Se lerem a história de Portugal podem comprová-lo. Respeitamos toda a gente e só queremos ser respeitados. Não admitimos é que nos faltem ao respeito, que venham com mentiras sobre os jogadores ou o País”, afirmou o açoriano, a três dias do embate com os ingleses, marcado para Gelsenkirchen.

You’ve got to admit, no other team plays with as much heart as Portugal.
This Generation wants to surpass the accomplishments of the ‘66 effort and with this kind of determination, I am sure they will.

Pauleta said it all in that interview.
The media is loving all this bickering!

Parreira’s words were totally misunderstood by Pauleta and Deco. I’ll try to find the exact words. He was backing up the Portugal team, but reporters have an interesting way of twisting a man’s words.

VIVA PORTUGAL WOO!!!! My dad knew Pauleta and his dad and he says and knows that Pauleta would never say anything to insult the English team and i think that all of this is being blown out of proportion and that now Pauleta should realy try to concentrate on saturdays game and try to give it 100% as should all the other players.

Pauletta has a big mouth. Maybe he should concentrate more about not going offside 12 times a game instead.

I hope Portugal plays well and most of all clean. Hopefully Pauletta can keep his mouth shut. Last thing we want to do is piss off more people. We have enough enemies already.
