i disagree with simao and ronaldo having an equal rating. i think ronaldo was much better than simao.

I like the idea of Carvalho as captain, both because he is a great defender and one of the constants from Portugal, and because it avoids having to choose from among several good midfield/forward players, none of whom clearly stand out as better suited to being captain than the others.

Either Carvalho, or Ricardo, who has been around a long time and saved Portugal on several occassions in these big tournaments.

If I had to choose from someone up from, I’d say Simao for captain.

But the main thing is that the team continues to play together as one, no egos. They will need to work together to defeat the likes of Spain and the Netherlands this time around …

Nelson your right, Carvalho should be captain end of story. I’m also of the same opinion that the offside was a good call.
I do know that we have been eliminated from 2 competitions by penalties and both times it was France that did it to us. If you throw in our loss to France in the semis of the 84 Euro’s, in extra time, then we really need to issue a little payback to France!

Thats an interesting statistic but I wouldn’t throw much weight on it…Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t remember any legitimate penalty decisions that weren’t called in at least the past two tournaments.

There was that thing against France, but it wasn’t clear cut…until we see an obvious penalty that isn’t called I think its just a coincidence

Does anyone else think this 5 captain thing is bs?

It should be one captain and one vice captain…but as long as the lack of clear leadership doesn’t affect the team I don’t mind too much.

Maybe it promotes team unity? To not have one stand alone?

I personally think the sole captain should be Carvalho…he doesn’t have nearly as many caps as the current 5 choices but he mans the defense and is very vocal on the field.

The Ruud goal was unfortunate for the Italians, but legal and should stand…luckily it wasn’t the sole goal in the match otherwise there would be a lot more controversy. Either way, the Dutch massively outplayed the Italians and deserved to come out on top.

Pedro, your right. It’s about time we got a break or 2 because you can’t win these tourney’s without them. Look at the French, Italians and Brazilians in past competitions.

What do you guys think of the Ruud “offside”? Was it or wasn’t it?

or Petit/Deco instead of Carvalho/Ricardo?
