Time for Luis’s halftime reality check.

PT 0 – 0 Lux

OK..first lets get the obvious out of the way. I know it’s a friendly. I know Lux is playing with 9 men behind the ball. I know it’s more important to work on tactics and chemistry.

Now, that we have the obvious out of the way. I’m rather concerned with PT’s play. If they continue to play like this, we won’t make it past the round of 16.

1. Terrible play off the ball.
2. Poor use of space
3. The midfield anchor isn’t working
4. Ronaldo continues to have problems with temper. I know it hurts kid, but your good and they’re going to hack you no matter what. Suck it up!
5. What’s with the pitiful dead ball plays?
6. Passing and circulation still looks sloppy 50% of the time.

On a positive note, Figo looks ready to rumble. Lets hope it continues. What do you guys think? I remain hopeful, but they need to throttle up and with only one week remaining time is running out. I hope the second half looks better.

PT 3 – 0 LX Fulltime

Much better second half. But we won’t be able to use the 4 – 2 – 4 against anyone in the WC. Any team with a good counter attack can create real problems to this system. Timing play was much better. I’m just glad to see some flow to their play. Simao looked good.

Yeah, Figo! Yeah!

Scolari has some work to do. One week is not much time, but I could sense the intensity wratcheting up in the second half. Time for the hard work boys. Ronaldo better improve his temperment. Angola will be all over him. He just has to out play his opponents. It’s a shame becuase it’s so easy for him some times. This week is critical. Força Portugal!

the defence looked solid. Game could have easily been 5-0. Figo was tremendous and showed he can go 90 which is huge.
