Quaresma is out? We tell you why.
After the U-21 list announce, a lot of people will discuss about Ricardo Quaresma’s absence on this World Cup.
Although many Porto’s fans will complain about this decision I must say that I support that and I mean to tell you why. The reason is simple: there are too many wingers on the team. Once that Felipão will cap Ronaldo, Simão, Boa Morte and Figo, there is no reason to call another winger, even when this “another one” is Quaresma.
In 2002 Felipão did the same with Brasil. With a lot of wingers, he had no typical playmaker. After Emerson’s injuries he didn’t think much before calling Ricardinho. Four years later, he won’t make the same mistake.
Portugal needs a replacement for Deco. He can get sent off or injured. This replacement could be a player like Hugo Viana, who now has a bigger chance to be in Germany. Neither Tiago, nor Quaresma have the same kind of skills.
I wouldn’t say that Simão and Boa Morte are better then Quaresma but once they are both in a good moment and Quaresma has the chance to play for U-21 squad, this was the logical decision to be made. For this very same reason, João Moutinho will be on the Youth Team while Viana might appear on the final roster.

Who is the substitute of Luis Figo in his position ?
Why simao sabrosa will be selected ? I think he has not the level of the others.
Is that a political question because he is a benfica player ?
What do you think about him ?

Sabrosa is not in form, but Quaresma is. Quaresma Is the best player playing in the Portuguese Superleague, how can he not be picked? If Quaresma was playing for Benfica, there is no doubt in my mind that he would be in the WC squad.

It is a deception not to see Quaresma at the world cup

I don’t like Simao either. I believe Boa Morte would replace Figo.

It’s a shame not to have quaresma. I can’t belive it boa morte and simao and not Quaresma.
He doesent know what hes doing!

The argument that Quaresma is not on the team due to the fact there needs to be a replacement for Deco and the name that is being mentionned is hugo viana is a joke. I will commence by stating that I am a sporting fan and there is no clubismo in what I will be writing( they both come from the Sporting academy).
If the option is that the replcement for DECO IS VIANNA and something happens to Deco; we better pack our bags.
Mendes ’s name has been leaked to the media and according to reports, he will be at the world cup. With Tiago,Mendes, what do you need a fat underachiever that has never lived up to his potential at Sporting and for that matter anywhere he has been.
Quaresma is part of the future and was voted that best player in the league this year yet he can not make the team . What is Scolari saying about the Superliga when the best player can not make the team. Viana will never earn this honor even if he played in the league that I play in at the Catanlona in Lachine (Montreal) once a week with my buddies.
To put this into perspective , as a sporting fan a can’t describe the words if Quaresma somehow returned to the team. Viana the words would be for the most part four letters . I will still hope for te best . I respect scolari but this one is really disappointing because the duo of Quaresma and Ronaldo in the right circumstances would have been productive and magical. chao

I must be clear here. Quaresma is not “not going” because Scolari needs a replacement for Deco. He is not going because Scolari already chose another winger. Therefore he won’t be calling one more winger when he also needs a playmaker. Viana did not take Quaresma’s place. Simão or Boa Morte did.

If Quaresma is better than Simao, Boa Morte or Hugo Viana…? There´s no doubt in my mind. He is. Can he put that on the pitch and be more usefull to the team, as a whole? I have my SERIOUS doubts.
Scolari showed the world that a dying an agonizing Brazil could win the WC, even without a sacred cow.
If any club lobbying has been seen, it has surelly been FC Porto´s, with a shamefull behaviour, at the expense of the NT. You see, there was a time FC Porto almost dictated portuguese footbal. The cases of Nuno Valente and Helder Postiga speak for themselves. Everything possible was made to bring a useless piece into the team – Baia. Every possible manipulation has been made to bring Quaresma in. Everything was made to bully Scolari. Well, this guy will not be bullied.
Moutinho and Manuel Fernandes were also said to go. They also won´t, apparently, and will be in the U21 team. Moutinho just said: “I am more than proud to have been given the chance to defend Portugal on the U21 team”. Moutinho is the only Sporting player who played ALL the matches in the season and is a pillar of the team. Quaresma is a pillar of Porto´s team since what…? Couple of months? I would choose Moutinho or M Fernandes a million times over Quaresma, at this time.
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/pt/w/bypa/yptw.html
Moutinho has got something Quaresma doesn´t have and costed him (Quaresma) the start of the season watching the others play, from a distance: Maturity.
Hugo Viana has been an underachiever since ever. Yet, just looking at facts, a shy and discrete Hugo Viana started the 3rd goal in the game against S Arabia. Quaresma did nothing else than trying to impress the coach (OK, I´m beeing too severe cos he is an excellent player, but I guess everybody gets my point). Moutinho, in the few chances given, was by far a much more essencial piece in the overall team play than Quaresma.
Quaresma WILL be the next “emperor” in the wings of Portugal’s team. No questions there. His time will come.
I very much agree with the LP´s argument. Just to finish… FORÇA PORTUGAL

I agree with Kennedy here; leaving Quaresma behind will have more disadvantages then advantages. Nevertheless I think that Scolari will even compound that potentially desastrous mistake by also omitting Pedro Mendes to include Costinha. Scolari obviously has his own peculiar criterias of selection but I must say I desagree with the way he prioritize them. Hopefully he might prove us wrong.

GUYS I’M NOT TRYING TO DISCREDIT ANYONE, OBVIUOSLY, YOUR OPINOINS SEEMS TO BE THE RIGTH ONES JUDGING FROM THE MISTERS’ SELECTIONS. I AGREE ABOUT PORTOS BULLING THE LEAGUE IN THE PAST TACTICSBEING CORRUPTIVE AND SOMEDAY THE EVENTS THAT ARE TAKING PLACE IN ITALIA WILL OCCUR IN PORTUGAL.
ALL I’M SAYING IS THAT QUARESMA HAS THE TALENT TO GO TO THE WORLD CUP AND IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE TEAM WOULD HAVE MORE OFFENSIVE TALENT.( RONALDO, FIGO , SIMAO AND BOA MORTE ARE GOOD OPTIONS BUT LEFTS BE HONEST THE LAST NAMED MENTIONED COULD EB REPLACED BY QUARESMA. THE OTHER POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE IS THAT A TALENT LIKE QUAREMSA DOES NOT GO AND A FAT, SLOW UNDERACHIEVER (VIANA) IS GOING TO GO. BY ALL MERITS MOUTINHO ALSO SHOULD GO EVEN IF HE JUST TAKES IN THE EXPERIENCE AND LEARNS -SITS ON THE BENCH-FROM IT BECAUSE HE WILL BE PART OF THE PLANS FOR THE FUTURE. I LIKE SCOLARI BUT HE DOES NOT NEED TO MAKE THIS INTO A ROMARIO ISSUE. QUARESMA HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BULLY TACTICS OF PINTO DA COSTA OR THE FACT THAT BRASIL WON A WORLD CUP WITHOUT ROMARIO. THEY MAY AHVE WON IT WITH HIM AS WELL.CHAO.

I must say again Quaresma IS an excellent and brilliant player. I am a Quaresma fan. I´m also a Sporting fan
and who doesn´t remember the crowd shouting “Quaresma, alé lé lé lé” (with a kinda “gipsy music” like rythm) in the match against Inter, some years ago… If “fully mature” the guy is a huge threat. Even if not, today Porto won the portuguese cup with a marvellous, beautifull cross from him, nicelly sent home by Adriano. It was a very nice one…
About Scolari´s choices… Man…, Portugal has had teams with even better players in the past. 94, 98 and 02 are examples of what shouldn´t happen with such tallented players. NOW we had a smooth qualification and went runners up last EC (OK, it was in our own backyard). Plus, the man himslef won the WC (OK, it was with Brazil). So, what can I honestly say to question him and his methods? Even if sometimes it doesn´t make full sense…?
I honeslty don´t know if Quaresma should or shouldn´t go. I feel he should ripe a bit, but who´s to know if he couldn´t make the diference in a game for us? On the other hand, who´s to know if Boa Morte´s robustness and less flashy but more goal oriented style wouldn´t do the same…?
Three things I do know:
1) If Quaresma keeps this way, he´s there in 2 years and in 4 (if we go) and the world will remember him.
2) With or without Quaresma, FORÇA PORTUGAL!!!
3) The U21 team is one hell of a team…

ll these players were sold way to early. chao.

There you go, Hugo Viana will go to the WC. Let’s hope that Scoalri knows what he is doing. I hope that Deco plays every minute of every game because I really think that Viana is fat, slow, lazy -overrrated but I ‘m just a fan and Scorali is a world champion so let’s hope he is on the ball.
if Viana does play, I will be holding my breath hoping that he helps the teem win.
By the way Midfeilders-Figo, Ronaldo, Mendes,Boa Morte,Simao, Viana- all from the academy.
Lets hope that Nani and Moutinho will be wearing the club colors longer the the abovementioned names. Those players were sold way to early. chao.

I think the one thing we haven’t thought about is team chemistry and players personalities. Maybe, just maybe Scolari knows something about Quaresma’s personality that we don’t??
There has been allot of speculation on the Brazil Blog that the real reason Romario didn’t go to WC98 & 02 was because he wasn’t a team player and too disruptive.
Scolari will be looking at how the players gel as much as their shear talent and what qualities they bring to bear on the team.
So I guess I’m saying that we have to trust his instincts and hope for the best.
I too think that the players left out are very very talented and agree with Pedro that their time is coming very soon indeed.
Also, I’m a huge Quaresma fan and like Kennedy am waiting for the day where he and Ronaldo tear up the wings causing chaos to apponents defences, but I have to say that I would have taken Boa Morte over him for wC06 at the moment. I’ve watched the English Premiership this year and Boa Morte is in amazing form and more importantly he’s the leader of his team. He’s the blood and guts that makes them tick. Surely this leadership can only help our NT?
Just my 2 cents worth guys.

Guys,
It’s quite simple. I like Queresma and would love to see him and Ronaldo on the wings, but Scolari is right. This is not the time for it. We have plenty of seniour, more experienced wingers right now. Queresma can replace Figo after this world cup. Right now, Figo’s leadership and continuity is critical for the team to be successful. Queresma doesn’t add anything to the team chemistry at this stage in his development. The U-21 team needs Queresma and H. Almeida. They will get their chance at the senior level. I for one agree with Scolari on this one.

As impressive as he is (what a great cross yesterday for Porto’s win over Setubal!), I think we need to trust Big Phil on this one. He’s much more knowledgeable of his players, at least from a Team Chemistry and NT Training perspective, than any of us could hope to be. He’s the one observing them at training. We see our heroes on the pitch for 90 minutes and make our judgements; he sees them for most of the day, when they train.
If Antonio Oliveira was still coach, I think there’d be more reason to worry about possible mistakes… but look at Scolari’s record. It speaks for itself. He won the last WC with Brazil, he took us to the finals of Euro 2004. I think he knows what he’s doing…he’s a tactician. Quaresma will have his day, no doubt. But for now, I think Scolari’s thinking should be trusted.

Did these people writing from the US and Canada actually see Quaresma playing during the whole season?

It ’s really a worst news for me and worst choice for this team!!! Stupid old man Scolari!! He must be regret for this decision and lose the better result for the world cup,my shit!!!

I Like To Say simao sabrosa Is Good Soccer Player He Should Be In The Portugal Roster. if anybody who watches portugese superliga would agree with me. now for ricardo Quaresma hes amazing soccer player yeah should been the roster i think boa morte shouldnt have been selected

I think Quaresma should have been called up because Figo is getting kinda old and he’ll get tired faster. So they should have called him up and plus, his one of the best players in portugal and the Star of F.C Porto.
