Ronaldo back in action for Man U
Ronaldo was back in action last night for Manchester United. The exhibition match against Oxford United was Ronaldo’s first appearance for Manchester since the World Cup. The match started with the expected boos and jeers every time he touched the ball, but Ronaldo managed to silence most of it by scoring a brace (2 goals) to help Manchester to a 4 – 1 victory. After his two goals, Manchester fans vocalized their support for the Portuguese winger.
“It was Cristiano’s first game back and I thought he handled it very well,” said Sir Alex Ferguson. “He took his goals very well. They were both great strikes and he got a terrific reception from the United supporters as well.”
Oxford boss Jim Smith was a bit disappointed with his own crowd, however. “You expect him to get booed at places like Liverpool and Manchester City but to come here and hear that is a bit disrespectful really.”
“Whatever happened at the World Cup as regards Wayne Rooney has happened now. I think most continental players would have done exactly the same thing. It wasn’t his fault Wayne Rooney got sent off. Overall, I thought Ronaldo was one of the outstanding players at the World Cup and he showed everyone what a quality player he is in this game,” he concluded.
It’s nice to see cooler heads prevailing in England and even nicer to hear coaches, like Smith, stepping up to point out how distasteful the entire matter is. You can catch a video snippet of one of his goals on the theoffside.com.
Força Ronaldo and Força Portugal!
