Ronaldo reigns at Manchester United?
This was a milestone weekend in the English Premiere League. Manchester United has a 3 point lead on Chelsea and is playing, arguably, the most entertaining attacking football in England. Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlos Queiroz have a squad full of young talent, but it’s clear they’ve chosen to build the team’s future around Cristiano Ronaldo. The entire squad has contributed to the team’s current success, in particular Saha and now finally Rooney, but Ronaldo has certainly been the primary offensive engine that keeps United moving forward.
His start to the season has been so impressive, in fact, that the media have no choice but to give him his due. Take a look at some highlights from this weekend’s Manchester v Portsmouth match. The commentators suggest that Ronaldo is the best at free kicks in the EPL and call him, not only one of the best players in England, but one of Manchester’s best of all time.
Portugal fans have seen plenty of free kick wizardry from Ronaldo, that’s not news here, and he is certainly one of the best in England. As for being one of Manchester’s best of all time, well only time will tell, but he’s clearly on that path.

Ronaldo sure is a great football player. Always fun to watch him play…

2nd best player right not in the EPL. The forward in Arsenal is playing the best soccer right now though. ANd I am not talking about Henry.

CR19 – I’ll assume you’re talking about V. Persie. He’s in excellent form, but I’m not sure he’s as core to Arsenal’s success as Ronaldo is to Manchester United’s. Or Perhaps you meant Fabregas, who is also in great form?

No Luis, I’m pretty sure CR19 is talking about van Persie… A brilliant winger, maybe also a decent striker (never really saw in there, so I must take other people’s words for it), loaded with talent (we’ll all remember how he “sat” Carvalho and valente in the “Classic Nurenberg Battle”, POR vs NED in WC06), BUT still has to do a lot of growing up and loose that “I’m a baaaaad MOFO” attitude…
So, in other words, on the technique dpt, CR and vP are both excellent – although I must say I find CR better.
On the personal level, while CR is cocky, vP is an arse, with an infantile attitude… Check out some images from the above mentioned “classic” game, to find out what I mean…

Just went to give a quick look at the dutch colleagues blog, and look what I found…
http://netherlands.worldcupblog.org/1/holland-vs-england-no-seedorf.html
No, it’s not the potentially anti-depressive effect of watching a HOL vs ENG game…
There’s a dutch midfielder, called David Mendes da Silva… Quite good too, apperently…
Can’t get any more portuguese name that that… Hardly surprises, considering the second biggest Cape Verdian community in the wrold (maybe even the biggest) is in Rotterdam, following Lisbon…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AZ_Alkmaar
A bit like Paris for the portuguese, the second biggest portuguese city (nr of portuguese inhabitants) after Lisbon (ncurrently, I don’t know anymore), due to the extensive portuguese emigration some 3-4 decades ago…
Truth is, I don’t even know if he’s from Cape Verdian extraction… But there is some portuguese in his family, cos that name would fool everybody…
It’s a bit like Robert Pires, former France player… One of his parents was portuguese…
Please don’t take it as some sort of chauvinistic insinuation… After all Yannick Djalo is hardly what you’d call a classic portuguese name
,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yannick_Djal%C3%B3
AND
Portugal’s best player ever was born in (at the time national territory – you can call it ex-colony) Mozambique…
Maybe you could make one post about globalization along the centuries, Luis…

CR19 – Pedro simply pointed out that one of the new blood players for Holland is of PT origins. If you ask me, it’s your last comment that makes no sense. What does Islam have to do with football? Keep the personal tit for tats out of the commentaries or you’ll end up in the ignore spam bin again.

Maybe it’s not even portuguese, but cape verdian origins, Luis…

Yes, Cape Verdian it is Pedro. Sorry, I just fired off that comment without reading your post a second time. Probably because I understood what you were trying to say the first time.
