Ronaldo tries to kiss and make up

September 25th, 2006 | By: Luis | 48 Comments »

C. RonaldoCristiano Ronaldo is trying to give Manchester United fans the warm fuzzies. In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, he makes it clear that he’s over his World Cup hangover and is looking forward to a long career with The Red Devils.

No doubt he is also looking forward to a champions league re-match with SL Benfica this week. Ronaldo was suspended for one game, last year, for giving Benfica fans the bird during the Lisbon leg of their group stage confrontation. I’m sure Benfica fans will welcome him with the same level of enthusiasm this time around.

Porkchops is what Canadians call Portuguese people….I don’t know why…

If it’s due to the food, it should be Peixe-chops or Gambas-chops…But, that’s what we’ve got.

Looks like I’ll be throwing my support behind my adopted country again since my beloved Croatians have managed to get only one team into UEFA and have been knocked out already.

I would like to see CR publicly apologise to the Queen and all the Royal Family. I believe that would put to rest his cantankerous actions during the world cup.

Sir Henry,
Apologize for what – playing his heart out for his country? The event of this past WC are long over. Lets move forward!

Luis you can’t move forward in an honest healthy way unless you make amends for past errors.

CR conducted himself shamefully this WC, we can all agree on that. Diving, crying and the incident with his TEAMATE Rooney.

Surely a simple an sincere apology to the Royal Family is in order.

Sir Henry,
No we can’t all agree on that. That is your opinion. Lets move on.

What errors did CR make? He’s a human and not perfect, but the red card was OK and do you want to forbid him crying? I’m sure you’d also burst into tears when you’re running onto the pitch, full of hope and expectations, and thousands of people are booing you and you feel they hate you just because you want to do everything to win for your fatherland.
Lets move on!

@luis

I dont know if CR will be old news by the time he is 24. ALthough I am afraid he has been through too much already in his career. HE might get worn out mentally. It happended to Kluivert who had all the talent in the world but outside factors took a hit on him.

Kluivert is a most extraordinary man, very self-possessed, egoistic and double-minded man. I hope CR has a stronger character and never becomes that eccentric, but playing in Spain or Italy would help him.

The similarities between CR and PK and very striking however. Anyone who has studdies any bit of Psychology can see CR is already very unstable. Even for his age. Things will soon snowball out of control.

Deco – I disagree. If anything, CR has shown that he matures quickly. Just since the WC, the difference is notable.

deco – just an fyi, the blog software also tracks posts by IP address. Changing your name and creating a fake debate with yourself will prove fruitless. Deco and CR19 are the same poster in this case.

Hi Soze!

You’d told me before about the porkchops, but I’d forgotten… Being close to Faro, you’re not so far away from Alentejo. So you know portuguese do eat a lot of pork in general, (especially in Alentejo, where the best in the country can be found), so a lot of porkchops and also a lot of lamb chops… :-) Maybe it’s an emigrant thing… I ate porkchops yesterday, in rainey and grey Holland… ;-)

Fish, of course, kinda goes without saying…

Hey!!! It’s almost an as interesting discussion as the one about CR’s sanity…

About CR, it was enough for me to hear parts of the game Man Utd vs SL Benfica, last week on BBC5 radio… That spoke a lot of how the guy is seen and/or not appreciated in Her Majesty’s Island… It also said/says enough Sir Alex’s declarations everytime he’s asked to talk about him…

Just to finish, and still in the “sanity” issue, I’d say that most people would agree that a normal person cries when sad, a normal person is annoyed when other guys prefer to kick his legs than the ball and I’d also say that starting to cry when it goes wrong is somewhat more healthier than starting to kick the adversaries balls. ;-)

Yes, porkchops are a nice Sunday meal, so I ate some yesterday too… but I’m not really fond of fish yet, though I like the way the Portuguese dress it.

However, we know that CR isn’t the most stabil person in the world, like Roberto Carlos or Gennaro Gattuso, but I don’t think things will “snowball out of control” soon, as you say, deco. I don’t wanna believe it because it would be terrible for Portugal.

Okay luis now we are reconciled. I will be fair with my views. However I am interested to see the progression of Portugal in the near future. My WC wounds have been healed at last.

CR19,
We are both curious to see how Scolari’s work turns out. There are challenges for sure, but time will tell if Portugal moves forward or suffers serious setbacks.

Yes, I think the situation is quite good at the moment… a lot of coaches are trying to copy Klinsmann’s juvenescence conception now, and we have to admit that it has worked very well, although I h… I mean, I don’t like the Germans so much. ;-)

The wounds from EC and WC will never heal completely… but I hope the next years will bring some joy to our lives…

If you, Luis and CR19, are really reconciled now, somebody could maybe tell me if Ricardo is all OK because there were some strange rumors about him being seriously hurt in training.
