Saints or Sinners?

June 29th, 2006 | By: Luis | 68 Comments »

I don’t mean to get all Dante-esque on you, but since we all seem to be talking about the ten levels of hell these days, why not take a true measure of what we think about our team. I know, I know stupid question for such a partisan crowd, but our opinion matters most so unlike Pauleta, Sven, and others, I’m going to jump on the hook.

There’s a lot of baiting going on, but nobody is biting and while everyone is taking the high road, I thought we should take the low. Give us a balanced assessment of Portuguese football throughout the years. Are we the terrible villains, everyone is saying we are? Or, are we the heroic knights in shining armor, fighting against all odds to secure our rightful place in football history, that some of us think we are?

We can visit these extremes from time to time, but they rarely hold up in the light of history. In the end, Portugal is just another footballing nation, with strengths and weaknesses, in search of that elusive gold trophy. It’s all we think about!

Força Portugal!

villain - I’m afraid you’ll have to hate us just a little longer. We’re not going anywhere. In fact, we’re coming straight into your livingroom for 90 minutes. That’s right, 90 minutes of glorious football that will finally silence all the critics. Even the straight up racists will have no quarter. You bastards make us want this more then anything else in our lives.

Forca Portugal! Bring that trophy home!

Villians,
It’s all right to be overwhelmed with anger and to be completely envious of us because we are still in the game and your not. But its all right because Mommy will bring you your favorite blanket and a fresh bottle of warm milk during the game as you cry out loud while watching Portuguese football history being made. And please do make sure to have your diaper on tight because if Figo scores you’ll surely soil yourself. And when the games done then you can throw a temper tantrum and beat up your teddy bear and continue being mad at the world.
It sucks to be you.

Forca Portugal!
It’s time for our glorious nation to shine on the worlds stage!

haha.

Jose you have a weird sense of humor. The word pervert comes to mind. THinking of me with diapers on tightly. Werid man. Although it explains alot about your Portugal fascination. Like seriously buddy you have some funny views.

I cant wait to hear what you have to say this time tomorrow. All consoling eachother, saying everything will be alright and that the referee was poor and the absence of the BRAZILIAN deco cost you th egame. I cant wait to hear. Dont worry I will pay a visit tomorrow. Glorious Day I will say.

It is me the legendary Luis Figo. I have come to talk to all of my fans. I want to apologize for my behaviour and conduct in the last game. I disgraced my name and my country with all of my acting. I flopped worse then a fat kid trying to dive. WE have already surpassed expectations and will not progress any furthur. Please I ask of all you eccentric followers that you look through your stench and accept the fact that we are done. GO home and forget this tournament ever occured. It is over. And so am I for I have taken a job at the Broadway musicals in New York CIty. It is what I am meant to be. I am in the musical KING KONG. I am the monkey. FORCA ENGLAND

you guys should check out the english blogs to really discover intelligent blogging, a mixture of views, sane and reasonable, not like all this over-patriotic, over-emotional nationalistic,’as armas, as armas!’ bull++++. They are equally passionate but there’s much more level-headed assessment of the team and game, much less insults and they have a better sense of humour. Try the bbc and the guardian blogs if you don’t believe me. Sorry, but most of your comments sound right out of the kindergarten.

my goshhh “figooo”…i dont understandd why u want portugall too loose sooo much i meannn give it a breakkkk…grow up and stop arguing with people over who’s going to wiiiinn..everyone is entitled to their own opinionn and iff the portugese fans want to believe that their team is going to wiin jus leave it and ur stupid commments to urself i meann coooome onnn…instead of trying to convince peoplee’s fans that there going to looose concerntrate on your own team…

to be honest i dont knoww if portugall has a chance to winn against england not because of your sly little critism’s but because of there yellow card situationn…im suree portugal has to pay enough attention and watch there every single move tonight to enusre that they can make it through…a true fan believe’s in there team but at the same time RESPECT’s others opinions and that is something you need ot learn “FIGO”…RESPECT for other people and their opinions…

Força Portugal!!!!!!

To the half wit who’s been disgracing Figo’s name,
Ah! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! I’ll bet your really green with envy now! so much for your predictions on the game. Well I’m sure you’ll come up with some moronic insults towards us, but the only thing that matters is we won!!!!!
Anyways, my hats off to England’s team! they played with class and with tremendous heart, what a nail biter from start to finish. What an incredible game from two highly talented teams that could have gone either way. I was at the edge of my seat through out the whole game, and when it came down to the penalty kicks my stomach was in knots. And boy is that Owen Hargreaves an incredible midfielder, and the saves made by Paul Robinson by a continues on slot of attacks form Portuguese…Incredible!

Be proud my friends! were making history now!

Força Portugal! Your time has finally come to shine on the worlds stage!

To all english and dutch fans: you have to learn how to lose. Don’t make stupid excuses one after the other. Portugal are divers? Maybe, but no more than any of your teams. Just see the matches. But try to be imparcial. And bobbylebonfire, if you are above all of us than why do you still write here? Go back to the hole from where you crawled out and stay there. Please.

Sorry but if anyones seriously trying to make out that Portugal , amongst many other nations & all nations to some degree, doesn’t deserve a reputation for diving , they should take a look back at the tape of the game tonight. Nauseating.
