Scolari: “Nobody made me any official offer yet”

Scolari has been having a lot of critics from most of the portuguese “opinion makers”. Who should be exposed as the brainless idiots they are. I mean, some of them are professional dish washers, that make a few $ going on national TV to talk bullsh#t and impress their own egos. I extend the critic to same of the “professional” media.

It’s not because we’ve always had good players that we don’t necessarily need a first class coach. Furthermore, Scolari HAS won and it was WITH HIM POR achieved the highest goals. In this century, at least…

I say this, exactly because of the England story… When people hear those rumours – gently spread and maximized by the press – everybody starts saying he only thinks of $. And then I think of all the other coaches (A Oliveira e.g.) we had, who thought of $ even more and who brought very little to the team. Not all, of course. H Coelho did a very good job (EC00). He was the firrts of the modern age to give the team consistency and coolness.

I feel it’s much better for England to have Scolari than the other way around. I also feel Scolari has a better chance of winning with POR than with ENG. Call me an idiot biased fan, if you want. I have my reasons…

If POR passes group stage, everybody will say it’s becaise we have a good team. Well, we also did in 02 and 86. If we reach the last 8, nobody can say anything. But they will. I know how it works in this part of the world. If we reach the last 4, I’ll be curious to see what “they” say…

I also feel the POR federation are eager to make an invitation but they are only waiting for the results, to have a more solid position to negotiate from.

If we don’t pass group stage, it cannot possibly be due to Scolari but it’s HIS head on the line. His head and opur a##. Do you think the guy likes to loose…? C’mon! If we do reach the last 4, Scolari himself might wish to stay. If we reach the last 8, it is HE who has a stronger position. And it is ENG who needs a coach. Not Scolari who needs a job…

Should he leave POR, I’m curious to see which will be next “team killer” the federation will choose, only to please the press controled public opinion and the ever lasting lobbies in portuguese football.

After EC2000, coaches changed, but the team kept some of the spirit and mentality that took them to the semi’s and a brilliant match against France (apart from that stupid penalty). Needless to say, France went to win the tournement.

We didn’t have an inferior team in 94 and 98 and we still didn’t go.

Thanks Ceaser. It’s just how I feel. In 94 Italy outqualified us – kicking us more than the ball in the last match – and in 98 Germany outqualified us. We outqualified The Netherlands for WC02. Who stayed home. Sorry to say this, but it was out of merit. Dutch aren’t sore loosers anyway. How come we behaved SOOOOO poorly in WC02 only a few months later???

We were totally unprepared for WC02. Even that idiot coach of ours admitted as much. I remember reading shortly before WC02 that Rui Costa had told his club team mate Maldini that he feared the US the most leading into WC02. As it turns out his fears were warranted.
Not prepared properly + players playing for themselves only + bad coaching + very poor player sub + no tactical strategy = Poor WC02. Can you tell I’m a little bitter..
We had too much quality then to play so badly (even with Pinto)..
