Striker Dilemma: Ricardo Vaz Té
![]() |
Date of Birth: October 1, 1986 Place of Birth: Lisbon, Portugal Height: 1.879m (6′2″) Weight: 80.74 kg (175 lbs) Current Club: Bolton Wanderers FC |
Club History
Ricardo Vaz Té began his football training with the Sporting Club Farense junior teams. He was sent to England for a trial with Bolton Wanderers and quickly made an impact on their youth team. He made his debut for Bolton’s first team in January of 2004 in an FA Cup match against Tranmere Rovers. Since the 2005/2006 season, he has been a regular fixture in Bolton’s first team rotation. His greatest highlight, to date, came in a UEFA Cup match, in front of a Portuguese crowd, against Vitória S.C. (see highlight video)
National Team History
Ricardo is a routine member of the Under 21 squad and has been a key resource during the squads Euro 2007 qualification campaign. His biggest game was perhaps for the U20 squad at the 2005 Toulon tournament, where he scored a hat-trick against Korea. Scolari has yet to call up this young gun, but his size and ability to drive the ball into the area will eventually earn him a chance to show his stuff. He’s very capable in the air and holds up well against tough defenders.
Funny, this match was against a portuguese team…
Anyway, it’s another Ricardo to give the enghlish some nightmares…

Hi Guys
I see him very often and he’s definately an up and coming talent. He still needs more regular playing time on Bolton. But he has the size and with time I think he could possibly be the striker we need.
Big, strong now all he needs is the that killer confidence that all good strikers have.

Great!
We have an unbeatable quartet of Ricardos:
1) Ricardo Alexandre Martins Soares Pereira, the greatest goalkeeper in the world, who is probably the best or at least the second-best player in the NT.
2) Ricardo Alberto Silveira Carvalho, together with Javier Zanetti and Fabio Cannavaro the best defender in the world (in my opinion).
3) Ricardo Sérgio Rocha Azevedo, currently one of the most interesting players in the world who can easily become as good as R Carvalho.
4) And, of course, Ricardo Vaz Té, who delights the Portuguese fans every day because with the new blood we see a lot of hope despite our EC and WC pain.

Didn’t see the match, but our U21 kids beat Servia yesterday, 3-0, with 2 goals from H ALmeida + 1 goal from vaz Te…
Press says H ALmeida was brilliant. This victory is, of course, a bit of a revelge from our defeat against them, in the champ last summer…
We played with Manuel Fernades and Nani but without Moutinho (with the AA’s) and without Yannick (inj, I guess).
Hope tonight the oldies do the same, as it’s no time for playing around, being 6 points behind group leader and with 4 points out of 3 mateches…
