The latest on the men in red

August 4th, 2006 | By: Luis | 12 Comments »

We’re about half way done with the European transfer window and I thought it would be a good time to catch up on the status of some of our boys.

Maniche is still on vacation and awaiting the outcome of negotiations with Dynamo Moscow. Turkey’s Galatasaray was the first club to show interest but, since then, Spain’s Atletico Madrid and Italy’s Inter Milan have both entered into the mix.

Figo is getting ready for the new season and if he has his way, Maniche will be playing for Inter.

Simão is having an on again-off again romance with Valencia. So much so that he almost missed the Champion’s League registration deadline for Benfica.

Costinha signed with Atletico Madrid but was shown a red card during his debut game. Talk about a spat of bad luck.

Ronaldo continues to deal with the fallout from the World Cup. Manchester United is doing its best to hold on to their star winger, but Real Madrid and Valencia continue to show interest. Valencia recently upped their offer to 25 million Euros plus Roberto Ayala. It’s clear that Ronaldo is Valencia’s first choice for a winger, with Simão a close second.

F. Meira was rewarded for his solid World Cup performance with the captain’s arm band in Stuttgart.

After a series of loan deals, Caneira has signed on to stay with Sporting Lisbon for five more years.

Ricardo is back to work with Sporting Lisbon and should be on course to reclaim his position in the starting 11.

R. Costa may make a move to the EPL. Fulham FC have shown some interest in the Portuguese defender.

Postiga doesn’t like the idea of playing for Standard Liège.

The rest of our players are either finishing up their holiday break or are already in pre-season training with their club teams. Be sure to check back in a week or so for details on upcoming friendly matches and the start of the Euro2008 qualification rounds. Lets build on our World Cup success.

Força Portugal!

All the men who dislike Christian Ronaldo are sooooo jelous; He’s hot and there not!

Christian, if you read this, you can phone 416-732-1392. I would love your autograph.

tasha, you left your phone number here for everyone to see? you live in toronto and this is your cellphone # with Fido. You don’t have a permanent landline registered in your name so i’m guessing you are 16 or younger and live at home with your parents.

the fact that you expect ronaldo see this, much less respond to it suggests a maturity level that is more consistent with a 12 year old. you need to develop some street smarts and protect yourself a bit better.

However, i suspect you are playing a trick on someone and putting their number here for us to harass.

either way you need to be more careful

There might be some new people called up for the next matches:

Hugo Almeida (U21 striker & Werder Bremen) is a big guy, very good to wear down the enemies’s defenses. Joao Tomas has never made much of a name, though…

And… As if Inter wasn’t already a mighty adversary, just check out Bayern’s squad (another Sporting Lisbon’s group enemy)…:
