What I saw

June 26th, 2006 | By: Luis | 55 Comments »

I am speaking as a Portuguese fan and don’t claim to be impartial, but this is what I saw in today’s PT – HL match:

An early red card. That dig on Ronaldo was horrible. Portugal should have had an advantage, but we really didn’t need it. We were in control of the game and Holland showed little ability to break down our defense. Hup! Hup! to the the defense. They called you soft early on in the competition, but they still haven’t found a way to beat you. Força! I want more of the same.

I saw a ref lose control of a game that was already on the edge. I saw both teams play a tough physical match. There were excesses on both sides, but by far, it seemed to me, that Portugal took the worst of it.

I saw Holland display terrible sportsmanship. It’s a shame really, they are good team. I also saw Portugal show grit and determination. I saw a team rally around its captain. Yes Figo lost his mind a bit but only after taking abuse on that wing for the entire match.

In summation, I saw a Portuguese team that overcame a strong Dutch side and a terrible referee. I saw Portugal leave a clear message: We are here and we are for real! To be champions, you must find a way to stop us!

Força Portugal!

Ferenc,
You are an idiot!
C.Ronaldo was attacked! And he showed us the heart of a true champion hanging in there for his team and his country…something i am sure you weakling know nothing about.

Last night I saw two talented teams resorting to a game of “who can cheat the best”. It was a shame.

I feel sorry for Deco being sent off for something and nothing, while Figo stayed on after pulling every dirty trick in the book. He was not the only one for sure, but a man with his skill and experience shouldn’t lower himself to such tactics.

That said, I was pleased to see Holland knocked out.

OPKO – Portugal is one of the teams that takes the most abuse from teams that have no other tactics on the pitch. If any team should be ashamed it’s the Dutch. They led this game to where it concluded. All you Portuguese haters should go away. Message to the world: If you use dirty tactics, you’ll get it back in your faces!

Holland did not give the ball back because of the original bad sportmanship by Figo(only moments earlier) when he cheated to get the dutch defender sent off.
So I do not blame the dutch for think that all sportsmanship was lost because of portugeause bad behavour and kept the ball for themselves.
Also Scolari is a good coach but he is mad for thinking the DECO’s first yellow should be recinded, when it should have been a straight RED card anyway.

That was by far the worst game in the cup, probably one of the worst in history. Ive always been a fan of portugal, but you guys played dirty and cheap. Diving all over the place and shit. Figo is this world cup’s Rivaldo. He is probably gonna disappear after the games like Rivaldo did too. what kind of a captian head butts someone when they are already a man down? r u retarded? and we all saw on slow motion how many times he dived during the match. A shame man, Im a fan of portugal no more!

Amir,
Portugal does not need your support…nor your comments! apparently you didn’t see the initial minutes of the match and that criminal attack on CRonaldo!

If the ref took control of that situation…Portugal would still have gotten the same result.

Figo did what he needed to do after being kicked around, pushed, shuved, thrown…

By the way, did you see Holland’s dives also? Watch the Spectacle! (Van Persie…drops in the box…when all else failed…looking for a penalty…he deserved a card too)

Holandezes da merda.

The Dutch team is usually a bunch of arrogants. If you read the dutch newspapers today you’ll see that that’s the most common accusation concerning the team being written today. Too much arrogance, and not enough skill. They were arrogant, but they couldnt find enough football to defeat Portugal. So they went the other way. And this time, Portugal fought back, as soon as it became clear the referee was a .. banana.

I watched the Por V Ned match as a fan of football but neither team in particular. It was probably the worst showing of sportsmanship I have ever seen. Both sides did too much diving, and the foul on C. Ronaldo was red-cardable, but Figo should have been sent off twice for his play-acting (elbow in the face) and the head-but. Deco’s second yellow was a bit of nothing but he was lucky not to be sent off for his first yellow. I could on & on but I realise Portugal fans won’t be happy with some of these comments. Like I said, I’m no fan of Holland either. Football was the loser in this match. So much cheating on both sides. I don’t buy the comments that it’s fair-play to retaliate.

Shaun and Desmo – what are you guys talking about? Figo took an elbow to the face! He took a cleat earlier in the tournament and his face shows it all. He’s had prettier days, but has the heart of a lion. So robben and Kuyt can flop all day in the box with no contact but Figo is a diver when he takes and elbow in the face…please.

We want to show the world our football and hopefully with the English, we’ll get our chance. At least they will try to out play us not assault us!

Has everyone gone mad?!?!? You all have to understand that for generations…he he..Holland has tried and tried again….to beat Portugal at football and they cannot! And so the game plan in the locker room for Van (Faggot) Van (Bastard)or whatever his name is….was to come out like corralled animals, what they failed to recognized was that the Portuguese are excellent at taming wild beasts!

ok…I have read a lot of the comments and let me ask why everyone is saying that England is a bad team. They made it to the quarter finals didn’t they? ANyway, the ref at the Holland-Portugal game wasn’t a bad ref..the game and the players were bad. The game was getting out of control the first half so the ref had to through out yellow cards as threats but the players continued to foul. I totally love the Portugal team bc of Christiano Ronaldo and that tackle was awful and was the head butt. Both teams were playing like retards. The weren’t playing soccer…the sport that i know and love, they wer wrestling and cussing.

Look at all you little nerds talking and gathering thoughts. Most of you are probably little kids sitting in your room on the weekend trying to meet friends. Pathetic, get out and do something productive. Stop trying to console eachother aboput your teams dirty performance. Get a date nerds.

I can’t beleive portugal beat england…thankfully they didn’t roll around on the ground as much as they did against the dutch. It helps when you have your defencemen catch beckhams would-be goal without fear of a penalty kick….WHAT A JOKE!!!!! Can’t wait to see france or anyone for that matter kick them to the curb. Worst sportsman in the world.

Portugal? Fair play? Christiano Ronaldo? Should all be ashamed of your football team, if England had behaved like that I’d feel the same. If I was Wayne Rooney I would refuse to play with him at Man U next year. Disgusting

Holland was better as a team. Portugal was better individually.
Either team could have won. Portugal scored a beautiful goal by Maniche, and the orange juice was created.
The Portuguese often cheat, that’s sad, but those little centuries old Portugal-haters from Holland did play crooky, Dutch style. They bullied, Dutch fashion, and they lost this time!!
Very happy with that.

Their anger just show how bad losers, those low swap rats are. Those crooks are aggressive and always come up with excuses for everything.
They pretend to show off themselves as liberal, open minded, tolerant (lol). But they are in fact just a bunch of sexually frustrated fascist haters. They are racist as hell. Holland is actually one of the most racist countries of Europe.
Dutch liberalism? Wishful thinking…
Do you know why the Dutch hate so much the Portuguese? Because we fuck their women. And their women enjoy it.

I am Portuguese and saw these match in Rotterdam, Holland. Next day, I went to work. My stupid boss was really pissed off (lol) I had a day laughing.
