Everything From Turkey to Spain!
At last Hugo Almeida, Simao, and Manuel Fernandes made their debut for Turkish club Besiktas and came away with a solid 5-1 victory. And who else but Simao got on the score sheet in his first game! Hugo Almeida also got the start, and played a pretty decent game as a lot of the offense went through him, and Manuel Fernandes was a second half substitute, but he also had a pretty good showing. I didn’t catch much of the game, but from what I saw it appears they have put in the time on the practice field needed as they seemed to have a lot of team chemistry out there.
Remember Besiktas also sports Quaresma, so if Fernandes, Quaresma and Almeida can put some stellar performances together, don’t put it out of the question for Bento to try to get those three out on the pitch together at the same time. I initially thought that this move might hurt their positions in the Sellecao, but if they play the way they did earlier this week, I will continue to support them. To early to tell though. Their next game is on the 30th against Istanbul Buy.
In other news, Benfica took care of Rio Ave in the Portuguese cup and will play Porto next week for those of you Benfica diehards out for some revenge! They will play in the 2-legged Cup beginning next Wednesday. Cannot wait for this one, should be a great game, usually is.

A couple weeks ago, I forgot to mention that Jose Mourinho was named Ballon D’or Coach of the year, after his Champions League title with Inter last year. Always great to see a fellow Portuguese win a Worldwide trophy. However, it seems he isn’t too happy at Real Madrid as just today he has declared he wants to return to England to coach Man City, Man United, or Chelsea. “I’ve decided to return to England,” he was quoted from in The Sun. “I have nothing prepared about my future – I just want to be happy in my work.” If you guys didn’t know he hasn’t been getting along with the Real Madrid club president Jorge Valdano. I don’t know about you guys, but if Mourinho is my coach I’m going to do everything under the sun to make him happy.
Since I last posted, Raul Miereles has scored another goal for Liverpool and has opened a lot of eyes across Europe. It was another long ranged effort off a volley. This really catches none of us by surprise who have followed him for years, but he is just starting to shine at Liverpool.
The lack of a true striker since Hiquain’s injury has definitely taken a toll on that locker room. There’s also been some news that Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos have broken off ties with each other and Ramos wants to leave….doesn’t look good right now

Is it just me, or has there been a lot of conflict between Ronaldo and some of his RM teammates lately?? Not good…
Real Madrid is dreadful to watch… Now he lost another game and is 7 points behind Barça. The prospects for this season aren’t very bright. The lack of a playing striker is showing. Ronaldo tries and tries, but he can’t. At this rate RM won’t win more than 1-2 trophies this season and I’m being generous.
Even Mourinho doesn’t stand a chance in such a club and with such a big handicap in the field.

No matter what trophy RM try for, they must go through Barca. Champions League, Copa del Ray, La Liga etc., their only chance is to catch Barca on a bad day, and that isn’t easy. I do see a Champions League run this season potentially, there is still time for things in that locker room to change for the better.

On another subject…
Everyone who has followed the FPF news knows that they can’t even hold elections since they hadn’t even ratify the statutes. I’m truly worried by that, because FIFA has threatened to ban all the Portuguese clubs and NTs from participating in the competitions.
What’s going on through the heads of FPF? Don’t they see the danger that the Portuguese football is running? They must be too egoistic to think about others, rather thinking about themselves.

Portugal vs Argentina February 9th. Going to be good. I can finally see Ronaldo playing better in the NT than his club, which couldn’t of been said in recent years. Maybe this is exactly what Ronaldo and the team need. Forca Portugal!

Valdano should have given Mourinho the freedom to do what the wants from the start. Right now Real Madrid’s much inferior to Barça, plus not having a decent striker until now clearly effected the final results. While RM barely wins the games,Barcelona has a walk in the park each week. Benzema’s missing too many chances, despite scoring some and Ronaldo’s recent performances aren’t too good. But he still had a couple of assists that could have gave RM more confortable results. I don’t know anything about Carvalho.
The portuguese trio in Besiktas are doing well, as I hear, but let’s face it, it’s not too difficult to do it in Turkey. Sure it gives them more confidence, but when they face bigger challenges (like in the Europa League and NT) they’ll struggle more.
