Portugal

A night to remember

It took me 24 for hours to recover my strengths to write here. What a game. I was worry to see Brazil x Portugal at the semi-final. Not because I’m afraid to face them but because I’m am Brazilian and wouldn’t be able to cheer for Portugal as I’ve been doing. I must say that, every Brazilian that I know is now cheering for Portugal for 3 obvious reasons: 1) Our historical connection; 2) Deco and Scolari are Brazilians; 3) France is the devil (at least for us, Brazilians)

To reach the final, Portugal must correct the left side of its defense. Every team creates its best chances there. Carvalho and Miguel are playing a great World Cup. Only Figo is doing as well or better as Miguel. Actually, I couldn’t understand why Felipão sacked Figo from the team. He was doing great. Was he that tired?

Ricardo also showed to be the best goalie at the most important moments. He chose the correct side of the goal on every single penalty. Ronaldo also did his best match so far. He did less of his tricks and was more objective trying the goal. That’s very important because his speed will be needed against France.

However, the one playing that I’m still expecting a better appearance at this World Cup is Pauleta. He is important helping to defend when we don’t get the ball but how many chances he is having during the games? Why they are so few? Wednesday, against France he will have another chance. He has been doing great in France for so many years that this could be his game.

This is it! This is the time. Our time. We shall reach the final. Let’s the World know the FORÇA of PORTUGAL!

lol, “France vs Germany in the Finals” don’t make me laugh. Just admit to yourself that Portugal has done an excellent job sans-faking and hopefully will continue to do so. The only “scums” I have seen so far are the guys coming around and pushing my men out of the way when they try to see how someone is doing or for apologizing. But don’t worry, because Nossa Senhora has got their backs and she won’t let them down.

Viva Portugal :-*

My 7 year old son and I will be pulling for you guys. Well, actually, I’m kind of divided, because I normally root for African teams first–and France is now the closest thing to Africa’s team left, plus I respect the French for sticking it to our never-elected president, but my son has been for Portugal and Brazil since day one, b/c his coach is Portuguese, and he was so distraught after Brazil lost (we watched in a bar and he couldn’t stop crying for thirty minutes–even the French supporters couldn’t cheer him up) that I’ve got to have solidarity with him (I was cheering for France b/c I’m tired of Brazil and this Brazilian team wasn’t playing as a team and deserved to be punished for that). Anyway, we’ll be watching and cheering for you on Wednesday, for sure (my son in his new Portugal jersey). I only hope there won’t be a bunch of diving going on that we’ll have to be ashamed of–my son hates diving and injury-faking with a passion. Unlike some of the other posters, I don’t associate it more with Portugal than with other teams–I’ve seen Brits dive (J. Cole), French dive (Henry), Germans dive (they beat the Argentines at their own game), etc. I just hope your guys will play the kind of beautiful football you’re certainly capable of. Best of luck.

Are there any portugues or french fans out there who own a ticket for Germany-Italy in Dortmund and want to swap for my Portugal-France ticket in Munich?

Oh, the French… I will in no way stoop to your level of ignorant name-calling but I do think it a bit funny and fairly appropriate that a French-man would call the Portuguese people “scum.” If you read any travel bookS or ask anyone with worldy knowledge it is just about fact that the French are rude, mean, and down-right nasty while the Portuguese are time and time again considered the kindest, most accepting people in the world. But on to soccer, fact is…EVERY team dives, all of them…it’s strategy plain and simple. And no, we don’t dive more than others, that’s ridiculous! BUT we are fouled more than others because we are a fast and agressive team. Take the game against England game…England had 21 fouls to our 10!! Or how about Holland’s 15 to our 10? We’re constantly being fouled…it’s the only way team’s now how to stop us!! And WE’RE the cheaters!? Think again! Regardless, it is great to see all of you non-Portugeuse supporting us! We’re a very small country of only 10 million people (that’s only 2 million more than the city of NY!) and I can tell you we very much that we appreciate any support and more importantly respect we can get!! France is playing well and they will be tough to beat. But when Portugal plays it’s best those guys can beat ANYONE in the world!!! FORCA PORTUGAL!!

Yeah. He’s right. Why is it that whenever we win a game. We’re constantle being called the cheaters? When the Stats shows that the other Teams Foul us MORE?

I wonder what the sore losers will say after we beat France. Our players are much shorter than the french that we were able to just sneak our way in between their legs and score? The things people come up with.
Appaling.

We must beat the French and go on to the Finals.
In euro cup ‘04….we were beaten right in our Home soil by the Greeks. oh the trauma. the tears.
Imagine if Germany makes it and we beat then in their OWn home soil. How Ironic would that be.

There’s no honour left in the game. Win at any cost without any shame.

Its also quite ironic that hardly any of these comments actually come from Portuguese based people.

Alfa Ganistan

We won fair and square and the players and coaching staff can raise their heads up high! Despite the bad press and the constant tourmenting of Portuguese supporters, even England’s coach admitted that we were the better team on the pitch! (not in the tabloid paper in the real papers)

Last time I supported France was when great Platini played. NOw they play such a beatiful footbal that despite not particularly fond of French, I support them. On the other side I am very dissapointed in Portuguese. I visited your country last year and fell in love with it and people (contrary to Spain). But when I see this team, it makes me give up watching the footbal. I apologize of course, but I cannot support this team. Portugal never was like this in footbal. I blame Scholari for coming and teaching them to be actors. Did he show your players lot of tapes from Italian footbal?

I am so disgusted with all of the accusation re: our tactics! Has everyone gone mad? I have watched all of the 2006 W.C. matches…of course not all of them involved Portugal, and in all of them there was diving, there were theatrics, there was faking, and in the end…cards upon cards.

Just for that alone, I pray that we shut all of you up!

Footbal fan I like you, did you see that dutch game? Do you believe they started to play dirty. You have to stand up to that crap my friend and we did we scored on a clean pretty play. That’s the way we like it. They don’t want us to play that way. They wanted to try new tactics against us. So now let the opponents know don’t try to intimidate us we’ll beat you that way too. France my Friend is a Solid elegant team. But they do sneaky things too. I’ll give you this Ronaldo he’s a kid but he’s ours.
