Blame Quaresma
Even after the victory against Germany, the Portuguese U-21 squad was criticized by the press due to its early end on the competition. The coach Agostinho Oliveira, worried about his job, has quickly blame Quaresma and Scolari for this result. According to him, the young Porto’s player was in a psychological damage after he was left out of the World Cup squad.

Players like Quaresma are not meant to be playing for under-21 teams.
Scolari has always been brave in his decision-making, and has often proved to be right, but I still think that there was definitely one place out of 23 for Quaresma, even if it was to be on the bench.

The way I see it, you don’t bring a player to put him on the bench. You bring a player that you believe can help, in a team of 23 and not in a team of 11 and 12 “substitutes”.
Scolari didn’t bring Quaresma, like he didn’t bring others. It’s not a question of who is better. It’s a question of who decides.
To start using excuses to “blame” a defeat is stupid, in my mind. We lost cos the others are also good. Not because we suck.

Oliveira is a moron, just like many other morons that have coached the NT. If Quaresma was ‘psychologically damaged’ he should have subbed him and then benched him. Other than obvious goalie blunders or easily missed oppurtunities to score squandered, you cannot blame the result of tournament on 1 player. Soccer is a team game!!!! TEAM TEAM TEAM, this should be branded (cattle style)into every Portuguese national team coach from now on.
Most NT bring 8 defenseman when they play with a back 4, Portugal only brought 7….there was absolutely no room for another winger without choosing to drop Sabrosa or BoaMorte…although perhaps Quaresma brings greater potential than BoaMorte, Quaresma would still be 4th winger and BoaMorte is much more versatile. Scolari made his choice case closed! It was unprofessional and selfish for Oliveira to blame NT coach for his blunders.
Much has been said about Quaresma starting to mature but his reaction only seems to validate Scolari’s assesment. Be professional, play the best with the situation you’ve been given!

I agree with “Trinco”, Oliveira is an absoulute moron, which other than Scolari seems to be the only type of coaches we ever select for the NT.
That’s pretty classless on Oliveira’s part for blaming the NT coach for his incompotence.
Very sad comment on the quality of coachs at Portugal’s disposal..

Ah..finally everyone is starting to agree with what I have said since the opening game of the U21 tourney. A. Oliveira is most defenitely a moron. He wasted the talent on this team. Maybe, as he says, his job is to develop players, in which case this man should not have been given the responsibility of leading this team. Let him run training excersise in training camp, but please FPF, don’t let him coach another national team again.
Queresma will one day do for the national team what he has done for Porto, but no one player could save this U21 team from failure. They never played as a team because they had no leader.

Once again, it’s clear Quresma has more class then A. Oliveira.

Quaresma shud have made the World Cup team not the under 21 team. Its not Quaresma’s fault that he got robbed of his place on the World Cup team.

Here’s a bit more insight, not necessarily as to the cause of the failure, but more as to how things actually function…:
