Ferreira, Viana to Play Saudi Friendly

February 28th, 2006 | By: Jennifer Brazil Holder | No Comments »

Scolari has announced Paulo Ferreira and Hugo Viana will play Portugal’s friendly game on March 1, in Dusseldorf, against Saudi Arabia.

Ferreira, a defender for Chelsea, replaces Ricardo Carvalho, who has an injured left thigh muscle.

Hugo Viana was added to the squad due to midfielder Tiago Mendes having sprained his right ankle. Viana plays midfield on loan to Valencia, from Newcastle United. As of now, Valencia are still deciding whether or not to sign him permanently, which would mean a great financial loss of about 12 million dollars for Newcastle.

Revised Squad:

Goalkeepers:
Ricardo - Sporting Lisbon
Quim - Benfica

Defenders:
Fernando Meira - Vfb Stuttgart/GER
Miguel - Valencia/ESP
Jorge Andrade - Deportivo La Corogne
Marco Caneira - Sporting Lisbon
Nuno Valente - Everton/ENG
Paulo Ferreira - Chelsea

Midfielders:
Deco - Barcelona/ESP
Petit - Benfica
Costinha - Dynamo Moscow/RUS
Maniche - Chelsea/ENG
Hugo Viana Valencia/ESP

Forwards:
Cristiano Ronaldo - Man. Utd./ENG
Helder Postiga - St-Etienne/FRA
Luis Figo - Inter Milan/ITA
Pauleta - Paris SG/FRA
Ricardo Quaresma - FC Porto
