Mourinho to Portugal

February 8th, 2006 | By: Jennifer Brazil Holder | No Comments »

Last month, Jose Mourinho stated he would like to become Portugal’s head coach, but not for another 12 years time. However, this may happen sooner than later, if Scolari leaves Portugal, and it is most certain he will. Mourinho would be absolutely perfect to take his place. Like Scolari, he is brilliant with tactics, and approaches the game with a psychological precision. He is incredibly intelligent, and brings out the best strengths in his players. The players want to win for Mourinho, for it is not pretty when he loses. And, his homeland is Portugal. Although obviously not necessary, I like the coaches to be of the same nationality of the national squad. There is something about it that makes it all the more meaningful.

In regards to Scolari, he is one of the best coaches around. Any nation, anywhere would highly benefit from the likes of Scolari. But, I find his comments, especially at this point in time to be disappointing, distasteful, and unprofessional. I was shocked he made such comments, and I wonder what he was thinking.
