Pedro Mendes capped
I was surprised by this news today. According to Infordesporto (in Portuguese), the defensive midfielder Pedro Mendes is already capped to the World Cup. He confirmed this news on his statement to RDP’s “Antena 1”.
Pedro Mendes started his career on Felgueiras but quickly moved to Vitória Guimarães where he stayed for 4 years before he was transferred to FC Porto. With the Dragons, he won the Champions League in 2004 and moved to Tottenham in a deal that involved Postiga. Pedro Mendes, who still in the Premier League, now plays for Portsmouth.
If this statement is really true, it probably means that either Costinha or Manuel Fernandes won’t be capped. I would bet that Costinha will be the one left behind, after his problem with Dynamo Moscow.

M. Fernandes was capped for the U-21 team. I think Costinha will go unless he’s completely unfit to play.

Luis, I saw that and I wrote about it as you can see. However all this Pedro Mendes/M Fernandes/Costinha seems a little confused to me. Agostinho Oliveira is capping his best 23 but Scolari might take 1 or 2 out of his team yeat. I really believe that Manuel Fernandes will go.

Luis Paulo, anything is possible at this stage. Scolari will weight all his options carefully before making the final call on May 15th. A Bola just reported that he notified Alex (Wolfsburg). It’s starting to get very interesting.

But isn’t weird that Pedro Mendes got capped 11 days before everybody?

Yes very strange indeed. They’re “pre-capped”. I guess Scolari wants to test a few options before May 15th. Nothing is written in stone at this stage. If they say they got the call from Scolari, then I would tend to trust it.

Can you give me the link to the Alex news? I couldn’t find it
