Petite and Costinha to face Angola
With less then a day until the tournament begins, Scolari and team Portugal returned to the pitch for another open training session. Scolari again opted for Costinha and Petite in the starting 11, relegating Maniche to the substitute’s bench. Some of Scolari’s sharp tone yesterday was apparently directed at Maniche and it’s clear that Scolari is unhappy with his recent form in training. Deco characterized Scolari’s public display as an isolated incident, designed to increase the team’s concentration. “Scolari’s work is fantastic. Everything he’s done has been well thought out and programmed.”
Paulo Ferreira was all smiles upon his return to the training camp and participated in a full workout. L. Boa Morte had to make a trip to the dentist and was the only notable absence. J. Andrade is now in Germany and has joined the team for the remainder of the tournament. F.Meira is all fired up and ready for action.
Are you fired up? The clock is ticking!

Wow.. it’s only hours away until the World Cup kick off.. it’s 1:30 am and I am wide awake.. surfing and reading about Portugal within the World Cup context.
Tomorrow, I will join the guys at work for an “extended lunch” at the local pub. This should be the first of many special lunches over the next month. I am just happy that Portugal plays the first 2 of their matches on weekends.. I will have to focus that day – find some peace before the game to pray and meditate… the third match i’ll be travelling down to Miami Beach and will be at the Playwright Pub for that match.. anyone down 31104 zipcode?
I am anxious to hear how serious Deco’s ding was. Will it keep him out of the Angola game? Or will he be training on Saturday? let’s hope Deco comes through. We’ll need his creative flair on the pitch. Let’s pray that Ronaldo’s temperament has improved.. that figo can tap into his youthful spirit, stamina and creativity. Let’s pray that the defensive line can mesh to the proportion where we won’t need to use Ricardo at all
It’s also great to see Petit in there.
I am happy to hear there is no crazy hype about huge expectations from Portugal as there was in the last Wcup. This World Cup i am happy we are not even in the Polls of favorites to win it.. (check out FoxSoccer poll.. portugal gets categorized in the “other” country which is fine by me)
I have a good feeling about this world cup.. I got my flag, my scarf and my dvd recorder ready to go.. Viva Portugal!

petite and Costinha pretty much play the same position…how about giving Tiago some time? The guy only started for Lyon which is the second best team to Barca of any of the clubs that the NT players play for.
