Although I’m certainly sick of all the diving “Even though all teams do it, portugal just aren’t as good at acting” That Dive by the French player against Italy was classic, wasn’t even touched, and again france gets another bogus penalty kick. I have to say I’m impressed with portugal’s defense and certainly if They
Had a better striker they could have advanced against Italy. I do agree that Portugal players comaplain to much, but that sholdn’t take anything away from their talent, remember all you haters, they don’t get points or goals for diving. “Netherlands had a man advantage hole second half and they complain Portuga cheated, what a joke, get a life people”. England has the talent, but not the poise, problem with coach and style of play. Anyway the reason Portugal was voted most entertaining is because they way they play, they can play the beautiful game and the tough in your face style.By the way all you portuguese haters, Portugal is a beautiful country, sunny all the time, people are nice. Can’t wait to go back and visit.

I love how they play, it is soo beautiful. I’m happy they won this award. Ronaldo was da best young player. Again Ducth ppl are acting stupid, they hate Portugal because Portugal beats them every time. well too bad for them. And by the way, most player act and lie, why only look at Portugal. and the Dutch team started the fight, remmember van Bommel and Boularouz????
lets talk about diving>>> the Netherlands has van Bommel, always lying and pretending something trouble happend to him and what about the biggest actor of all: Arjen ROBBEN!!! Sooooo plzzzzzzzzzzzz Dutch ppl!!

But anywayzz the best team won!!!!

entertaining as in theatrical and dramatic…..or entertaining as in diving and playacting or pretending to be hurt….certainly can not be in entertaining as in staying on the feet, playing through adversity and scoring goals….how many were there again?

The team and the nation have alot to be proud of. (Baby steps).. next stage of development would require a true STRIKER. If there was one overwhelming dissapointment with the team’s performance, it has to be their inability to finish their chances and put the ball in the net. Portugal desperately needs a STRIKER of QUALITY. Pauleta is and always was useless(sad but true). Look at Thierry Henry and what he provides to the midfield. I must admit, I have not watched many PSG games, but it remains a mystery how this man (Pauleta)generated so many goals playing at the club level but does f*#* all for the national side. You can’t expect to score goals at the euro or world cup when you basicly stay alone all the way up the pitch. Any great striker assists the ball movement from midfield to the 20 yard box. Hello pedro, it’s called man marking

I love portuguese soccer. I love the team and C.Ronaldo. I blame the officials and Scolari himself for letting his attitude deteriorate on the pitch and as the tournament progressed. He is only 21 years old. He is tremendously gifted and without a father figure to guide him. I think we can cut the kid some slack or at the very least discipline him once (yellow card or two) so that he may stop diving and turning himself into a comedy act in front of an international audience, so that he can instead display his skills and tremendous talent.

I don’t know if Scolari will be back when he contract ends, but his comments about Portugal’s ability to reach the final stages of the world cup were worrisome. Hello Filipo do you not remeber you lost the euro to a nation of the same size in population with consideralbly less talent..

I say the priority remains a TRUE QUALITY STRIKER, probably from a former colony since there are none in the system for now..or at least as Gordon suggests they should go with two strikers..
Forza Portugal…

I am glad Portugal won award for most entertaining team to watch…I myself was on pins & needles during most of the games – was disappointed with ref’s calls through out –felt Portugal should have gone to final spots 1 or 2…had ref calls been fair …but I guess the world is not ready for a “small” country to actually win the most played ball game in the world…For those that can only say hateful things about “Portugal”, is sad…maybe next time your native homeland might make it to wc…maybe…& maybe not–I do feel Cristiano Ronaldo deserved the award…he is young–keep your eyes on him –he will out preform all in future….Congts Portugal…

@Gordon:
1) Portugal doesn’t really have much strikers, as good as the rest.
2) Portugal never really works well with 2 strikers.
3) Portugal was the team that scored the highest nr of goals in the qualification games.
4) Portugal’s formation (4-5-1) is flexible in the sense it shifts naturally to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 (like France). This means 4 men almost exclusivelly thinking in attacking and/or creating for others, with usually very good wingers (our main strength).
5) It convinced me.
6) I admit 2 years ago POR was more breathtaking – check it out in youtube – you’re bound to find something, or ask Luis to post some links here (I posted some here in the past) with nice images…
7) An essential condition to be called “entertaining” is to keep on entertaining. Something nobody, apart from us, Germany, italy and France did… ;-)

Okay, is it just me or does anyone else think that the two teams that deserved to be in the final were the two that weren’t?(Portugal & Germany).

I am sorry to all the French and Italian fans, but quite honestly looking back at the begining I did not see anything remotely promising or even dramatic that would have suggested to us that either of your teams would make it into the final four. Yet there you were.

I enjoyed the fact that the very things that our teams was crucified for were even more blatant in the final two of this WC.

Some of the theatrics from France and Italy were by far more suggestive than those of Portugal. What really still hackles my goat is that Zidane twice gained a penalty kick by “Facking it”, but the consolation for me was that Italy went on to punish him badly for it. I bet Zidane (Wonderfull footballer he his despite current news) thought he had won that game the way he won the one against Portugal. I guess the lesson is that Fifa needs to serious address all these issues which have arisen from this world cup, with regards diving and facking etc etc etc.

They need to look into the 2nd referee that makes a call based on playback(just like in cricket with the second umpire) for critical descisions, like a penalty kick, which could win a gain unfairly.

Yes this may be the game of football, but with all the money and prestige of the game today, it can opnly stand to reason that players and coaches and team manager will use every trick to win a game.

Anyway, I have had my say, unproeffessional as it may be. I can’t wait for 2008, and 2010 when the beutiful game and my beautiful team will be here in South Africa.

Hey Filipe-sa, hey brother is that you?

Forca Portugal

The only entertaining thing about the Potuguese team was seeing Ronaldo running with a burst of speed and then forgetting that he actually had another 9 players on the field with him.

Portugal deserved it, but so did Ghana. About Diving yes, latin players (brazil, Italy, Spain, Argentina) dive and cheat more than others; it’s part of their nature, they sea the pitch as a dancefloor, while other see it as a battlefield. The biggest cheat in the history of the world cup was a goal with a hand against England and was scored by a God, Diego Dios Armando Maradona. Once I heard Pelé, another God, saying that we shouldn’t forget that football is a game, and in all games there is the use of Bluff as a strategy, if u get cought u’re punished. If they don’t catch you, you are not a cheater u’re a smart, just like in poker. Cheating for me is using steroids like american footballers.
