Scolari’s 23 – Final Roster
For the past week, we’ve been picking the 23 men that we think should be capped by Scolari on May 15th.
So, here, I present you the Final Roster, according to our opinion.
Goalkeepers
Ricardo
Vitor Baia
Bruno Vale
I must say that Bruno Vale was a good surprise. Howerver, 2 of our choices won’t be in Germany. I already explained why Baia won’t be capped and Bruno Vale will be playing the U-21 European.
Defenders
Ricardo Carvalho
Nuno Valente
Miguel
Caneira
Fernando Meira
Paulo Ferreira
José Nunes
Ricardo Rocha
The first six are already with a bought ticket to Germany. The last two have their chances but they will have to fight for their spot.
Midfielders
Costinha
Maniche
Figo
Deco
Cristiano Ronaldo
Petit
Tiago
Manuel Fernandes
Luis Boa Morte
Simão Sabrosa
Quaresma was down for 1 vote (Simão took his place). We can see that there is nothing decided in the Midfield once that 14 midfielders were voted. Besides Quaresma, both João Moutinho and Hugo Viana were very close on the election too.
Fowards
Pauleta
Postiga
Nuno Gomes
It was almost unanimous. These are the 3 men that will be scoring for Portugal this summer.

I love watching Figo so much. He´s such a smart player I hope he´ll shine once again this summer.
And btw. I would have picked Baia as well he s as old as Kahn and Lehmann from Germany but anyway.

I’M STILL HOPING quaresma will go instead of Boa Morte. Chao.

ehh haha. i prefer simao though.

In my opinion, Simao is sure to go. Quaresma might go or not but I don’t believe it’ll be at the expense of Simao.
I also don’t imagine Scolari taking Costinha, Petit and M Fernandes together. I believe 2 from these 3 will go.
Those are also the ONLY 3 men we +/- have for that position…
You have 24 names there…

You count it right. So neither Quaresma, nor Simão are going

Regardless of my personal options, I put 100 euros on the table saying Scolari is gonna take Simao to Germany…

I guess experience over inconsistency…Quaresma is fantastic, but not yet ready for the big time.

Not just that… Scolari calls Simao so often, that I don’t imagine Simao not going. More… Simao has already started matches together with Figo and C Ronaldo.
To tell you the truth, one of the things I most admire in Big Phil is that, no matter the 11 or the team’s schemes and tactics and usual positions, with him, EVERYBODY “plays” no matter where. Why…? Because if the qualitiy is there, players just know they must give 110% and do whatever required within their limits and adjust.

[...] Scolari responded saying that anyone, even his 12 years old son, could figure at least 21 of the 23 men. “If I ask you, you would be right in 21 names. If I ask my son, or any other boy he would figure it out at least 21 too. If you look to my pasts rosters, you will see there is no mystery“. We have our list here, based on our wishes, not our guesses, but let see if we can match 21 names also. [...]

nunu valente is injured

it will be ferreira carvalho meira miguel will play the left figo deco ronaldo maniche tiago (amazing year) and paleta goalies r ricardo quim and paolo santos backups r petit simoa(if he is fit to play) nuno gomes postiga boa morte ricardo rocha and quaresma(porto #1)

portugal have lost two key defenders for the world cup who thinks this will affect our team chemistry and more importantly controliing the game in front of ricardo(frangeiro)

quaresma is one of the best player in portugal and hi is one of the best wings in dis year and scolari need to think the portugal need player with talent for the world cup and not old players like simao and rui costa…

if anyone should play it should be hugi vianna if front of quaresma…vitor baia should be no where near the pitch..he is terrible and he has shown it before…and figo really needs a spectacular performance for me to even think about jumping on the figo band wagon again…hes done nothing!!!! Pauletta is the man and will prove it again…cant wait to see
c. ronaldo play hoping for great things from him

hey alex u surely dont kno what ur talking about first of all rui costa retired and second of all simao is not old. Quaresma is great player but portugal is full of talent and theres no room for quaresma he has lots of time to be a great player still.
