Scolari’s 23 – Goalkeeper

Good ideas should be kept alive. Therefore I’m copying my friend Daryl form the USA blog and trying to pick the 23 Portuguese players who should be capped to the World Cup. I’m also counting with your help to choose our favorite names for each position.

We shall choose 3 goalies, 8 defenders, 8 midfielders and 4 forwards if we consider C. Ronaldo as a forward.

So let’s start from the beginning: the goalkeepers.

The options are many: Ricardo, Baia, Quim, Paulo Santos, Moreira, and Bruno Vale and others.

My choice would be: Ricardo, Paulo Santos and Bruno Vale

I believe you should either start with Baia or not call him at all. His presence at the bench could damage the group. It would be one more thing for Scolari to worry. All the press and fans would be asking for Baia after every little mistake Ricardo did. Paulo Santos would be my second choice. It is very important to me that a goalie is being capped for his team and Quim is not. Bruno Vale would be my 3rd choice because his age. As the 3rd goalie he will never actually play but a World Cup experience can be important to his future at the national team.

Now, give me your vote. Let’s name the 23 man who should play the World Cup in Germany.

Wow…no posts yet. I’m stuck on the last 3 and have a whole new perspective on that May 15th deadline.

Yesterday’s list had Bruno Vale there. That’s why I assumed Paulo was going. :-) Not that I know him that well…

Baia is (I hope) sure not to go; Quim is our #2; Moreira was injured throughout the year…

Pedro I know Bruno Valle was capped for the U-21 team but he would be my choice anyway.

No need to be sorry at all. But the propose of this is to “tell Scolari” who do we think should be going to Germany.

I’m a big fan of Moreira. Still very young though. He’s not going.

My only fear is if Ricardo has one of his typicall psycological breakdowns… Quim is good but after mooving to Benfica became somewhat of a pompous a##. Paulo Santos is, I think, from SC Braga – until some months ago, the least beaten defense in Europe. A good sign.

Ricardo, Quim, anyone except Baia. I am a HUGE Porto fan and I don’t even want him on the team. His reactions on set plays are horrible. He is much better when he doesn’t have time to think. And in a tournament where most goals come from dead ball sets he is not the goalie for us.

Luis Paulo, check these ones out as well (if you can). The first about FIFA itself and “politics”. The second about Tiago.

vitor baia; ricardo; carlos; the last one plays at the moment in steaua of bucharest, which might make the final of the uefa cup; he is a good goalkeeper and third choice; ricardo is not in dispute; despite criticism, it is difficult to forget that match against england during the eurocup; baia: endless controversy; it seems obvious that he should go; he is a team player, and one of the personalities in football which i admire; further, he is a the player in the world that has oen most trophies, at all club-levels of competition. but again, scolari has his choice.
