Scolari moving on?
According to an article printed in the sports daily Record, Big Phil will be moving on after tomorrow’s game against Germany. The report states that he hasn’t officially resigned yet, but that a meeting between FPF president Gilberto Madaíl and Scolari will take place at some point after the team leaves Germany..
“Of course, I’m a little surprised and I need to talk to him further. The Federation would like it very much if he stayed and so would the majority of the Portuguese people. We would like him to stay at least two more years as head of the Portuguese team. We’ll see what actually happens,” said Madaíl.
This may be the end of the road for Big Phil, but we must remain focused as a nation and look to the future. There are other great coaches with the right attitude and capabilities to lead this nation to its ultimate goal. Mr. Madaíl you did well in going after Scolari, lets hope your next pick is just as good, if not better.

He should go. His tactics were wrong against England, not much better against France. ANd by the way, he should take Deco with him. We don’t need foreigners like the Frence, especially when they show no ethics – like the french divers.
We have plenty of good coaches and good payesr in Portugal.

Can we please get Jose Mourinho now?!

Ilume Iname – i feel your frustration. But a coach is a coach. They each have their preferences. About the ‘naturalized’ thing. Aren’t we beyond that already? Many of us have dual citizenship. If I had half of Deco’s talent, and the FPF called, I’d jump at the chance. Naturalized is fine. The world is not so one dimensional. Eventually there will be no national borders to speak of. Should we stop playing football then? Of course not.

Kelvin – I’m afraid we’ll just have to make do until Mourinho is ready for his second career. Continuity is key here. The next level of players will need a smooth transition to the A team. I don’t think Scolari is as inflexible as some of you think. He did the best with what he had at the time. I think he will re-invent himself at least one more time. Strikers, we need strikers!

Thanks Luis. I didn’t mean to sound anti-Brazilian. But Deco is the worst diver I have ever known – he got better in barcelona, and Scolari appears to encourage diving as well. I orefer that Portugal plays beautiful football and pleases the world than using antics to win trophies. SO I was not being anti-foreigner in general terms. Sorry if it came out as such.

I so do agree with you Luis
From what a read today, we don’t have any, not even in the Sporting schools
We need desperately a striker and i don’t mind if it is one in the same situation as Deco, I was born in another country so did my mom, I don’t live in Portugal but that doesn’t make me less Portuguese.

I get you Ilum. Thanks.
I don’t think we can blame Scolari or any one player. The art of ‘the dive’ is part of all soccer training programs. Even England and Holland. It’s part of the game, not something eminating from players themselves. Diving has been around so long, and nobody does anything about it. Seems cheap to try to crucify Portugal when all their hands are dirty.

Luis you couldn’t be more right.. We need strikers real bad. I’m an Azorian and I’ve always like Pauleta but he wasn’t good enough.
Maybe someone like Vaz Te can step up or something?

I think Scolari will be staying with Portugal… I hope so!
“There’s a big chance that I’ll stay,” Scolari said Friday, denying Portuguese media reports that he intended to quit after the World Cup.
“I just need to iron out a few aspects,” he said. “I’ve no reason to leave unless a couple of things don’t work out.”
“Money isn’t everything in life. I need to have sunshine, to wear shorts, to go to the beach, and I get all that in Portugal,” he said.

we still got jose mourinho

We got José Mourinho.. but the truth evidence tere´s must sayed, the problem is not the coatch, you know it!!
Scolari´s coatch enter to Portugal team with an intention..to do Portugal winner..in Euro 2004,we stay in 2nd. place, not first!! The World Cup 2006, was our 2nd. oportunity to win, but we didn´t have the arbitrator´s good will..and some rules, that leave normal parametros.
So, i think, there´s a 3rd. oportunity for us, to show the world, that we have good players, too. Maybe Scolari, stays for more 2 years.
Don´t forget, Brasil were champions with Luis Filipe Scolari. (the difference they are Big).
Go Portugal..
Boa Sorte para o 3º lugar…GO…go..go

The man to lead the post Figo generation dosn’t exist yet. After Scolari’s tenure, he will leave a big pair of shoes to fill. And with the reputation the media have thrust upon us the next in line will have to be home grown as no foreigner will want to take the job. The next coach will also have a bunch new questions to ansewr.
First will be the new formation. I run my own team in a Sunday night league and know the difficulty in running the current formation (4 2 3 1 I believe). To run this, you need an exceptional striker up front, and I don’t think Pauletta is the man for this. For the Czech Republic, Milan Baros can’t do it without Koeller. For England , Owen can’t do it without Rooney or Crouch. So on and so forth. The inclusion of another front man so help out in Pauletta’s duties might be the answer. (By the way, I wouldn’t mind seeing how Vaz Te would play if thrown into this role.) Also, whether the use of two holding midfeilders is really necessary if you can get the output out of the forwards.
Second, he will have to be a scholar of people skills. He will have to pick up the peices of a shattered Portuguese team. This team plays immensely on emotions and I believe that the World cup was extremely taxing on this team. (By the way, losing to France in the mannr we did, I don’t know if this team has any gas left in the tank for Germany on Saturday.) He will also have to know how to deal with some egos. I am of the school of thoght that Quaresma is next man to be introduced into the squad as the replacement for Figo. The man has talent but needs a coach that can mould him into the team dynamics to benifit the squad and not look to play only for himself. (Frankly, he has tons of talent but if he stays in his current mindset it will be the greatest waste of footballing skill.)
Thirdly, but not the last problem, he will have to be able to work through and out of our new media given reputation as divers and dirty. He will have to be an ambassador of sorts being able to handle this problem with the global media. If we can shake this new found title that would be great.
This is only a drop in the bucket because there is going to be a great deal of work for our new gaffer after Scolari. Then again, he may stay on for another two years, and this entire message will then be uselees.
Hope we can collect ourselves for the game against Germany.

Felipao is an amazing coach! He is passionate about what he does, encourages his teams, and isnt afraid to put small name players to play if he thinks their good. All of this Brazil needed and we would have won. Instead Portugal got Scolari and they got to go further in a world cup then they have gone in 40 years. If the Dutch are still mad because Portugal was better then them or England is mad because Rooney is a violent player with a bad attitude that’s their problem.

Scolari should have given Nuno Gomes and Boa Morte a chance. Defenders would know less about both their styles than Pauletta’s.
In the last WC, South Korea were the hosts and they lost the 3rd place match to Turkey. Could it be the same with Germany v Portugal today?

It sounds like he can get that in Mexico as well. One big difference — the water is much warmer.

A message to P:
P – I did not delete your messages because of your criticisms, even if I feel that they are biased and unfair. You too easily point the finger at Portugal’s players for doing what all other players have done in their careers. If you want to go around pointing fingers, then you better be ready to point the finger at Rooney and others for their disgraceful antics on the pitch. You’re outrage is misguided and fool hearty. It is just a football game as you stated in your last posts, but I’m sorry you learned modesty too late. Look closely in the mirror, English football is full of violent and disgusting tactics. Where is your outrage for that? If you want to take the moral high ground then don’t apply a double standard. I have never defended our players as total saints. I am a Portugal fan to the end, but I have never suggested that all our players are saints, just not the sinners you claim them to be. The game is what it is. Take it or leave. In my opinion, no true fan of football would have written some of the garbage you wrote on this blog.
As for deleting your blogs, it was becuase you made it clear early on that you were here to antagonize, not to discuss football. Look closely and you will find comments that are quite critical of our team. You changed your tune to late, I’m sorry but I am trying to keep this blog civilized and positive and while your more recent comments have been more moderate, you are a magnet for conflict on this blog and that puts all the regular and considerate bloggers on this site at a disadvantage.
There are many blogs that are wide open and you can continue to post your views there if you like.

Achei francamente nojenta toda a campanha contra Portugal e contra o Cristiano Ronaldo neste Mundial!
