The most exclusive club
As of this moment, Portugal has a 1 in 6 chance of becoming world champions. Tomorrow, it could and hopefully will be 1 in 4. Of the remaining teams, only Portugal has yet to hoist the treasured trophy. This is without a doubt, one of the most exclusive clubs on the planet. Will Portugal join the club?
If you asked the average football fan, a year or two ago, if Portugal would be in this position today, they would most likely tell you to keep dreaming. “Portugal has no tradition and little chance of making it to a cup final”. For those of us who follow the team, however, it has long been clear that this team has what it takes to do great things. Portugal’s performance thus far, has just been icing on the cake for ‘us believers’ even if we have to deal with each new wave of cynics and critics that pop up as Portugal gets further and further.
Those critics acknowledge the victories, but it’s always with a caveat. “Portugal is a good team, but not a ‘great’ team.” They will tell you. It’s always something. Well, let me tell you. This team is a “great team”. They just haven’t been allowed to show it yet. This Saturday, we play a team of class athletes. We’ll finally get our chance to play an open game. We may be down a couple of key resources and shackled by yellows, but our ‘jogo’ is bigger then one athlete or another. It’s what we bring as a group that will get us through. Each man must know his job and do it well. Each man must leave his heart and soul on that pitch.
England beware! We are a team on a mission. We are here to upset the football world order and if you want to defeat us, you better bring your best game and hope that we (Portugal) do not. We’re bucking the odds at 1 in 6, but that’s not good enough. We want 1 in 2, and entry into that most exclusive of football clubs – the champion’s circle.
Força Portugal!

I really dont understand how english dont see the reality…
England is not even in the same league, this team they bring today is must worst than the one in Euro 2004 and lost there…
Portugal have the best players and the best coach, so is fair we pass this one..
Im already thinking in the game against Brasil in the semi-final….

Looks like all the venemous dogs are out again. Came back for more, did you? Tammy is obviously new to footie or tournaments.
Tre – Gerrard is a good player, but sorry he hasn’t done much except score one goal in this tournament. Figo has been the anchor of this team. Like I said, best all around footballer for this tournament. And he’ll show it again today.
Força Portugal!

To the Idiot that posted this comment using my name.
“I want to apologize for before. I have become to obsessed with my views lately that I have forced you all to listen to my nationalism crap. ”
Pretty funny stuff! then again you are a circus clown by trade with many years of experience.
I’m sorry if my pride for my country offends you, but then if it bothers you, don’t visit this blog!
By the way, did you watch the game? pretty impressive how we won against such a talented team like England. I’ll bet it just burns you up inside knowing that Portugal is still in, and your team is long gone!
Well anyways this proud son of Portugal is grinning from one ear to another, not only because of the last win against England, but also knowing that you are rolling around in pain and agony and envious of Portugal’s win.
Be proud my friends! were making history now!
Força Portugal! Your time has finally come to shine on the worlds stage!

What are you people talking about! Portugal IS an over-rated team, You had to take Figo back out if international retirement in order to have a bloddy chance. And no, he did not come back on his own accord, he was begged to come back. You say that Portugal has not had a chance to show what they can do, that because when they face a world class team, they can do nothing. You struggeled against England who had a man off, and got lucky on pentalty shots. I’m sorry, but Portugal is not a “great team” at all.
