Who are the 23 men?

The newspaper Record says that they already know who will be on the Portuguese final roster. They released yesterday a list with the 23 men which would be capped by Scolari on Monday. The names of Tonel and Ricardo Quaresma appeared on the list.

Scolari responded saying that anyone, even his 12 years old son, could figure at least 21 of the 23 men. “If I ask you, you would be right in 21 names. If I ask my son, or any other boy he would figure it out at least 21 too. If you look to my pasts rosters, you will see there is no mystery“. We have our list here, based on our wishes, not our guesses, but let see if we can match 21 names also.

I couldn’t find this list anywhere. It seems to me that Record only released on the printed version. If anyone has access to it, please post it here.

which pretty much states what you´ve said.

Now, judging from his words, I believe the sure 21 are:

Miguel, P Ferreira, Meira, Carvalho, Valente, Caneira, 3 goalies (honestly, I still didn´t get if he´s taking B Vale or P Santos), Costinha (M Fernandes should go if Costinha stays), Maniche, Deco, Petit, Tiago, C Ronaldo, Figo, S Sabrosa, B Morte and the 3 strikers.

Scolari has consistently opted for stability and these are the guys everybody expects (not necessarily desires) he´ll take, because these are the guys he´s been taking.

This leaves us with the classical issues:

1)Is Quaresma going? Everybody wants him to go and if he goes it´ll be in Boa Morte spot. Must be said Scolari kinda gave up on him (Boa Morte) but “came back to him” after the EC04. The guy is in impecable form. However, this still doesn´t say who are the mistery last 2…

2) One extra man for defense or one for defense and one for midfield? I believe it´ll be another midfielder and another defender. I have no idea who the defender(s) will be. But, if another midfielder is going, everything points to Hugo Viana.

Hugo Viana, when inspired, can show the world why he had #30 (Deco is #20, Rui Costa was #10) on his shirt. But should we wait for the Prima Donna to get inspired? What if he doesn´t? Still, he´s got the experience of being there in 2002.

ps – this is just to give an idea why people want to see Quaresma going
