Who’s your daddy now?

Ronaldo rises to the topJust a few weeks ago, Ronaldo was the little devil that could – talented, but too often tempted by the dark side. My how different things look today. This google news query would have returned a pile of articles denouncing Ronaldo as a dirty cheat and all around scoundrel back then.

Now, the headlines are full of praise and admiration for the young Portuguese winger. The accolades the pundits are throwing around are many: best player in England, best in Europe, possibly Manchester’s best ever, FIFA player of the year candidate, etc. His own team mates consider him the best player on the planet, at the moment. Lofty claims indeed but not entirely unrealistic. If anything, Ronaldo proves with each performance that no objective is too lofty, no dream unreachable. Consider these headlines:

The Telegraph “Ronaldo on way to greatness”
Manchester Evening News “Ronaldo dances with gods”
Sport Network “Another Ronaldo show and we go six points clear!”
Eurosport “Red-hot Ronaldo downs Reading”

Ronaldo is without a doubt the most in-form player in the world. He destroys teams with his attacking game and leaves crowds cheering for more with every touch of the ball. Yes, even the boo boys skip a few beats when he’s on the ball. He is certainly the most accomplished showman on the pitch these days, but true greatness comes with titles – an EPL championship, a champions league title perhaps, and of course the most important of all, a European and/or World Cup trophy for Portugal in the near future.
