Honestly, it just seems like they don’t want to play or that they think they can’t win. Needless to say we have no poocher in the box since Pauleta left! This is what I would like to see Portugal form up as:

hey i live in the US but am full blooded portuguese and msudzi it is one hell of a thing to talk about portugal or any team for that fact when your country blew it against brazil and has been against every team in the “awesome” lol world cup qualifiers they have. or maybe your a band wagon fan and like a team like brazil or spain but either way when portugal finally gets in a qualifier zone that has tough competition like el salvador and trinidad and tobago and we lose then you can talk until then keep your fingers crossed and maybe the US can win the prestigious Gold Cup again.. woo hoo. good luck beating third world teams.

You had your chance in 04″ You guys are the champ of hockey with skates or whatever u call that gay sport. You guys can go back to your excuses about the coaches fault or the other team payed to win. The reason you guys lost in 04 is because you have no balls, balls win titles, not home field advantage. OK the coach sucks but my high school team can beat Estonia, look down the balls are either there or not.

Voskoboinikov is a good player, he works hard and is good in the air because hes quite tall but he doesn’t score that many goals. And as a Striker, that’s what you should be the best at. If he starts scoring a bit more goals, hes a very good striker. And btw, he doesn’t play in Russia anymore, he plays in Sweden’s second league team Syrianska FC.

I didn’t get to see this game, but it sounds like Estonia played well and Portugal played poorly given the expectations for both teams. Thanks to the Estonia team for giving the Portuguese a good fight in a friendly and reminding them that they have a lot of work to do if they want to have any hope of making the World Cup 2010.

From what I’ve read, it sounds like the only “good” things to come out of this game for Portugal might be:

- solid performance by Beto; does this mean we can count on him to as our #1 keeper? I have not been impressed with Eduardo.

- another poor performance from Boa Morte … can we hope that Queiroz finally gets the message that BM does not belong on the Selecao?

Otherwise, Portugal continue with their inability to score goals. It will be a long wait until September …

Just curious, was this game broadcasted live on TV in Portugal and if so, do you know how much locals/fans followed/noticed it at all? I mean its not a big game, just a friendly match, so was there something diffrent to feel in the pubs etc… or just a usual lazy midweek evening?
Just want to imagine the feeling in the air. I`ve had luck to visit some big cities during important games and I like the special vibe in the air during these events. How about those “small” games where is no some Giant vs Goliath battle?

@Noel:The truth is always acceptable. Underestimating opponents isn’t.

Besides Beto I was also impressed with Estonian number 11, Voskoboinikov, 26 year old player from FC Torpedo Moscow, very goal-minded player that didn’t give up on any ball heading his way. Interesting.

After a second “fast forward” viewing of the game I’m going to award José Castro with a 6. His defending wasn’t all that bad but he needs to work on not just destroying the opponents offensive play but deliver playable balls to the midfield. Gonçalo Brandão gets downgraded to a 3, he accumulated on disastrous defending throughout the game.
