FIFA & UEFA rankings

Thanks to winning both matches of the play-offs Portugal climbed up FIFA’s ranking to a surprising 5th place. This might stir up talks on whether we should go into the 1st pot of the WC2010 draw next December. I don’t think it will happen, but…
A day before UEFA released their ranking featuring Spain on top and Portugal in 7th place behind Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, England and Croatia in that order. As expected we secure top seed for the Euro 2012 avoiding the likes of the already mentioned teams as well as France (8th) and Russia (9th). The Poland-Ukraine Euro 2012 qualifiers will have 6 groups of 6 teams and 3 groups of 5. The nine winners and the best runner-up qualify directly for the final tournament. The eight remaining runners-up contest play-off matches.
Currently? Think so. I’d like to see that match up on the pitch. Just to make sure everyone else knows.

Look where France and Croatia are on that list, 7th and 10th place?
That’s crazy.
Somehow i doubt that portugal will be a seeded team, although wih their 4th place finish in 06, you would think maybe they should be.
On the other point, people could say portugal is better than italy, but I think the result on the pitch would show otherwise
Seth,
By what logic can you possibly make that assertion?

We’re in pot 4 actually, which is good news that means that the last group match will be against the top seeded team.
In related/unrelated news.
Maniche (seemingly) has officially retired from the national team.

We’re still better than Italy.
